#87457, "I think my SAFC is broken?"
Jun-29-05 10:01 AM by gotboost2394

Okay so i finally figured out what was part of the cause of my car running like shit. It was the SAFC Map Sensor wiring, with the Map wired through the SAFC my car wouldnt rev past 4000rpm, buck and shake, and idle terribly.

I finally decided to just pull the wires off from the map because I was sure it was a map wiring issue after eliminating everything else, and after putting the map circut back to oem, sure thing my car runs a whole better. I can rev to redline now!

This weekend I completely rewired my SAFC, since I bought the car with the SAFC installed, i found everything to be okay, but when i plugged the MAP wires back in, the problems came back. I also found that the person that put the SAFC on in the first place did the Blue Wire Mod... i think its screwed.

A question i have is can i still lean out my 400cc's with the SAFC even though i dont have the MAP wires in or will it do nothing?

This car is really starting to annoy me, a leaky turbo turbine seal, the SAFC crap, and 150 compression in my #3 cylinder....sucks to be me.

Betcha $1 your settings in the SAFC are wrong and that's why this is happening.

Hmm well settings are from what i can remember:

Sensor Type: Pressure 7-in 7-out
Vechicle Type: 4-cyl Up left arrow
Throttle points- Low=25% High=75%

And for the fuel settings i have followed a bunch of guides and used my o2 sensor voltage and EGT temps to lean out for my 400cc injectors.

As far as any other settings i'd have to check, but im pretty sure somethings wrong with it.

You might want to verify that its still set for pressure, because the problem you're describing is exactly what will happen when it's set for anything other than pressure.

Its set for pressure. I just went out and checked to be sure.

As for the arrow, i ment right. You cant even set it to make it point left.

I'm thinking i'll just get another used SAFC off of eGay and then sell it back if it doesnt change anything so i dont lose any money.

Save the money you would use for a SAFC....and buy a vortech SFMU. if all youre using is a SAFC to run 400cc or larger injectors, id almost guarantee that when you datalog your timing advance on a boosted partial throttle run, its off the charts. how lean is your leanest setting, and at what RPM? Get a SFMU, run low idle FP, and ditch the SAFC altogether....you will be glad you did.
