im gonna say really pushing it is 250whp but theres a good chance something might give, safely probably closer to 230

I would say 230 is more realistic... jumping roughly 70hp from being n/t boosting 7 or 8. That sounds about right.

both of you are wrong, which this is a topic that should not be "guessed" on.

The 420a Stock bottom end with a properly designed fuel system can support 275 CHP daily and 300hp on occasion. For anyone who posed above that would like to argue, proof can be had on HRC website. Bill has done extensive testing to actually find the limits of our 420a and the weak point is the piston ring lands. if you install forged pistons on Stock rods, 19 psi daily is very possible and has been proven by a member here. The post about this cannot be found on this site so dont bother searching.

Yes the piston ring lands are very weak. They seem to crumble under any detonation. But to say that they're the weak link seems a bit unfair. Folks have blown em apart at all different levels of boost. Its not the poor weak little pistons fault that the owner shook the shit out of it.

Tommyboy was bending rods at 15-16 psi. He had a box of em sitting around so he basically pushed it to see what they'd do. 13 psi all day yes, but not past that. So they're good for somewhere around 300 crank HP. And if you search you can find posts like that on this site.

don't you lose about 17% of power before it actually gets to the wheels, so if you take 300x.83=249 which is why i said around 250whp but is pushing it. take 275x.83=228.25 which is why i said around 230whp safely

i know bill has done extensive research, i got those crank horsepower values from his site as well, i just did the math because the guy wanted to know how much whp* you can get, so im right

I'm sure with a T3/T4, supporting mods, cams and head work, 275whp isn't unobtainable on a stock bottom end. Tune safely with enough fuel and watch for knock and you should be good to go.

I believe that as far as TommyBoy bending rods is because they can't handle the pressure from the boost. But at 7-9 psi with headwork and cams you should be able to crack the 275whp mark safely.

Julian, with proper building and tuning you can almost accomplish anything. You just need to do a lot of research and be carful with what you are doing. Dont expect too much too fast otherwise you will be disappointed.

Mr slick ran 19 psi daily on his car before ripping it apart. he had forged pistons and stock rods. It was posted on a site that I see you frequent also.

and as far as losing 17% in drivetrain, that is a generalization and is not a proven formula for every single car. If you want to parrot info make sure you have proof! Show me a Dyno sheet of CHP and whP on a 2gnt with 2.0 in it.

i know its a generalization, thats why i used such words as, 'about' and 'around' besides even if it isn't exact, it will give you a ballpark figure that won't be THAT far off. So when you get down to the nitty gritty, yea it's just an estimate, not proven* per say, just proven as a good estimate, and i think a lot of people will vouch for those numbers

I am going to side with blackmagic on this one. My friend has a 420a in a 98 neon with the HRC stage 2 kit. He was racing an evo and he cranked her up to 15psi. He had forged pistions and stock rods. Imediatly after that race he bent his rod in a bad way and had to limp home. On the brighter side he walked the evo. 13 psi daily driver maybe. 19 psi, only if you didn't get on it.
