#86355, "Got running and everything was Ok until.........Help!"

First off Motor has about 10000 on it with JE low comp pistons and a star stage II kit.

I just started it for the first time the other day after installing the turbo kit and everything was great-Idled great and had no oil leaks or exhaust leaks....(only ran for 4mins each time)

Then this afternoon I just let it Idle for about 15-20 mins and it started to smoke a little and it was a very whiteish blue and smelled burning oil- not too bad just a little-But enough to worry

My question is can changing from regular 10w-30 to synthetic oil(being more lighter of an oil and running NGK BKR7 plugs gapped at .035 instead of normal plugs gapped at .050 cause it to smoke?

I checked the turbo seals on inlet and exhaust sides and there is no signs of leaks just a little sooty on the exhaust side.

I pulled off the wastegate and checked the inside of the exhaust manifold and there was the same sooty condition(so its coming from the motor.

PCV valve is good AND IT WAS NOT DOING THIS BEFORE I INSTALLED THE TURBO KIT, NEW PLUGS AND CHANGED TO SYNTHETIC OIL....ANY IDEAS???

have you done a compression test?

could be rings/valve guide seals. could be a thinner oil. could be an act of god.

COuld be oil burning off the engine from your touching everything during the install.

Yeah, let it run a little longer and see if it goes away. I've had plenty of times where my car has smoked durring periods of heavy modification. Assuming you just had the JE's installed also, it could be alot of things. I'd be willing to bet it will cure itself.

The pistons have been in for a while and the smoke is not coming from oil off my hands from the install it's coming from the exhaust tip.

I drove it for about an hour today on my lunch break- Man I love the sound of the turbo spooling up and then blowing off at the shifts-Just awesome!!!!!

The smoke kinda went away after the drive but then idling afterwards it came back alittle but only half of what it was before the long drive...

The only thing I probably shoud have mentioned is my car sat for 10 months at the paint shop and was not started even once while it was there-I cranked it over with the coil unplugged until the oil pressure came up > then reconnected and started up perfect.

I think it might be a stuck oil control ring from sitting for so long and if it where the valve seals it usually only smokes when you first start it up and then goes away.

Needless to say Any way I go about it I'm going to drive it for a while and see if it gets any better...Until I need to pull the head and send it off for porting and 5 angle valve job...Any other Ideas ?

Yeah compression on all 4 are 175,180,175,175 after 5 revolutions on each

You won that bet it has totaly cleared up and is running great-but Ican only get 6psi out of it, isn't star stage II 8psi?

maybe the turbo's seeing 8psi, but you're only seeing 6 because of the intercooler emoji

just get a MBC or make your own

I have an external wastegate, you would think I'd here it if it went off? I get 6psi at 3800 under 3/4 load...and then stays at 6psi for the rest of the pull even with more pedal---Boost leak?I checked all my IC pipes and other leaks.Nothing?????

Star kits only give you the 6psi spring. you need a boost controller or the 7 psi spring for the deltagate.
