I see alot of you guys posting pics of the larger turbo setups, and Stage 5 in your sig. I am about to be starting my own custom setup, and was wondering what the best stage 5 setup would be. What kind of flow rates are we talking about at this level?(Intercooler and Turbo)
I am wondering what the whole package would entail. For example:
-8 injector and custom fuel setup (I am aware that however it is controlled is optional)
-Fully Built head(1mm. oversize and race ported)..what cams?
-Fully Built Block(.020 over 8.8:1 CR or whatever)
-???Turbo
-???intercooler(that handles the pressure)
-IC Piping (what size ID???)
-exhaust manifold(does this need to be a bigger diameter than a standard 420A Turbo exhaust manifold???)
-anything else?

I just want to see what opinions are circulating so I can build it right the first time. I know some people don't like to say what they put in their cars, I just want to see what everyone else thinks. I have done tons of searching and several hours of reading on the many parts available and what works best for specific areas of upgrading. I haven't seen a post specific to "BAD ASS TURBO SETUPS" for our cars.
Please enlighten me. TIA

You know I alway's hate seeing something called a stage. What the hell is a stage 5? What constitutes a stage 5? I think your real question is>What would it take to make my car the badest 420A ever built?
A. Money, and lots of it.
B. Time, and lots of it.

You should really ask yourself what your car is going to do. Daily driver, drag racer, road course, etc etc. From there you can decide what turbo/engine/fuel setup to run.

If you want a pretty streetable car, just get a starr or hahn kit, do the engine build like you mentioned and call it good.

Heh heh, stage 5. If my car had stages it would likely be around 19.

LOL. both statements are correct, but I want to know what is considered stage 5? Is that like the highest you can go? Is there a stage 10 out there waiting to be discovered? emoji I figure it is the highest, but the real question is exactly how I posted...what would it take(parts-wise) to be stage 5? Why do you rarely ever hear/read anything about stage 4?

If you want a "stage 5" talk with HRC. Hes the onlyone dealing in "stages" past 1 (no IC) and 2 (with IC). Otherwise there is no set "Stage 5 setup".

i just got hahns stage 5 about two months ago, it keeps with basically everything you need, clutch, 8 injector setup, turbo, manifold, give them a call and ask some questions, i can help you out as much as you can. Oh and the turbo flow rate for the super20g is 680cfm, the super20gN is 720cfm, the super25g is even higher and can support almost 700hp at the crank according to hahn. the super turbos hahn sells are different than the regular big16g's and 20g's because they use a 10cm turbine housing.

ok, since im stage 5, ill help
stages:
1 = turbo no ic
2 = turbo + ic
3 = turbo + ic + built bottom end
4 = turbo + ic + larger turbo
5 = turbo + ic + larger turbo + standalone

so i really dont think the 8inj setup is considered a standalone.

I think they should make the NA mod stages decimals because when ever i see stage 1 or stage 2 or stage 3 i think turbo, but sometimes they are talking about NA and thats confusing. how about there stage .1 and stage .2 and so on?? lol

Like was stated a few posts above, there really is no set items for any stage after 2. You can guesstimate what stage you are realistically if you wanted to. Take for example what I did: I bought the STAR stage 1 then upgraded to a larger turbo and to the SFMU and bought the 24v greddy IC as well as direct port nitrous on a fully rebuilt top and bottom end. People ask me all the time what 'stage' I'm running and I always respond to 3.5 because thats what I assume it to be if it was a 'stage'.

What you need to do is decide what you want the car to be fast for. If its your daily driver, you dont want 500+cc's, youll be filling up your gas tank every 2 days or so. As is now, I have 50lbers and I drive it for recreational purposes only to entertain myself, (not a daily driver) usually at night maybe 4 times a week doing about 180 miles in those nights and need to fill it up once a week on 93 octane.

Its best to start off slowly and work your way up instead of jumping into a pit that your unsure about. Without the funds I had comming in back then, I never would have been able to get the car where it is because I jumped into it without really knowing much. Start off slowly and upgrade yourself from there. My best advice.

Thanks everyone. That helps to settle my brain a bit. This car burns a tank a week NT with only about 120 miles of driving! I don't mind though, I drive 30 miles 3 days a week, and 2 miles to and from work every day along with an ocassional trip to the grocery store...so I can make this thing crazy fast for weekend fun...and walk to work if it's too much...lol. Everyone says start small, but Stage 1 or 2 isn't in my "spending style" budget. I can't save money. I will spend $500 a week on parts though...just can't seem to hold back from buying things emoji I appreciate everyones input, and trust me I'm not just jumping into this without doing tons of research first. I just don't want to buy the same parts 2 or 3 times over until I'm happy. I'm sure alot of you know what I mean. Thanks guys emoji

well if you get an 8 injector setup that should sve gas milage for you. Im running stock injectors and then 500cc secondaries, so when you're not flooring it, you're still getting about stock milage

uh thats pretty much how it is with any fuel set up imo. even with bigger injectors, you tune it to put the proper amount of fuel in at the right time. just because you have bigger injectors doesnt mean your dumping more fuel in all the time. its called TUNING. tune it to put the same amount of fuel in under vac as it would stock. which means your milage will be affected very little unless you hit boost... same as with the port fueler

Well, form a soft spoken O.G. stage 5 boy I can say the only thing the "stage 5" equals is time and money.

Like stated above the "stage system" comes from the HRC kits. I don’t think that it is a way of bragging about anything but more of a quick not of what kit your running.

To date I still run the original HRC stage 5 turbo kit.
s20G
Accel DFI
1:1 FPR
725 cc inj
Bla, bla, bla...

But to answer your question I run...

2.5 ic piping
s20g
Greddy ic
Accel DFI
4 720 cc inj
70mm mustang 5.0 tb
custom intake manifold
2.5 DP
no cat
3" cat back
And all the other wonderful little toys that I have collected over the last 8 years

I run between 20 to 26 PSI on the street depending on the fuel I am running and it works well for me. As a personal opinion it all comes down to tuning. You can have as many go fast parts as they make but if you haven’t taken the proper steps to reengineer your car your always going to be slow.

Anyway, back into the shadows...
Brian
