Hey just an update with some pics, the motors basically all together, except some brackets and the accessory stuff, it's goin together a lot faster than it went apart, it should be ready to drop in end of next week because i want to install the fpr and pump before i drop it back in, wish me luck! oh by the way, what exactly does that black plastic box under the intake manifold do, it looks like it just has a vacuum line to it, so does it just store vacuum? what's the point of that?

here are some pics!

block all together

Hey man looks good. That black box is for your cruise control. The first time I pulled my engine I was going to throw it away until I found out it's for the cruise, hehe. But I don't even use my cruise so it wouldn't of mattered.

I would definetely paint the valve cover and the intake manifold. You painted the block and the head you might as well. You pop the hood and they see the turbo anyway. There not going to pass right over the turbo and be like "hey is that valve cover painted?" Also shorten the vaccuum lines between the boost controller wastegate and turbo. Then you wont need that bracket and the shorter the lines the better. Just put host clamps on the ends where it connects to the turbo, boost controller ends, and wastegate. It wont look flimsy like that either it will be nice and sturdy.

to be honest i have no idea what that motor is, we've got like 10 laying around, we tear them down for practice, its just some random V8

I probably will eventually paint the valve cover, but it's just not on the top of my things to do list right now, i just want to get it started, then i'll worry about makin it look good. The only reason i painted the block was because i had time to kill because i was waiting on some parts. And thats not where the boost controller is staying, i'm gonna try it right here and see if it works (pic)

oh and while we're at it, what goes in these 4 holes in the tranny, only one of them is threaded. not the black peice with the line on it, i know where that one goes, but what about the others?

Man you need to pay more attention when you go ripping things apart. 2 non threaded holes are for the clutch slave cyl. lowest large threaded hole will have a bracket brace that goes from motor to trans.

there are locating dowels that are supposed to be in the block, as well. (above the slave cyl bolt holes)

they look like this

edit: google search under the images tab 'block dowels'

lol your friends are all kooks. that engine isnt in there right at all man, push it 10 inches back and line up the motor mounts emoji

also, some advice is to bolt on your battery roll bracket to the chasis now because the trans is going to get in the way and you're going to have a hell of a time getting a crows foot wrench in there to get those bolts tightened down. dont worry about it if you're putting the battery in the trunk though.

a week or two to get everything bolted up?! holyshit man more like a DAY or two tops if you have all the parts...

but then again, im pretty sure this is your first build...so yea, take your time

looks like fun emoji brings back mad memories or 5

haha, yea, the motors not in there right yet, that was before i even starting lining it up for the motor mounts, i had to take the tray off so the tranny would slide in there without getting caught up. I was just excited to get it in because i kept on running into stuff i had to take off, so it was up and down with the motor mount. I say it'll be done in a couple weeks because I want to be pleasantly surprised when it gets done sooner!

For anyone else with this problem, or just taking that damn bracket off...I bought the Snap-on #XSM1012 12mm. offset 12 point short wrench. It's still a bitch, but MUCH easier
