#8534, "Opinions on B&M Import Oil Cooler"

Anyone have a opinion on the B&M Import Oil Cooler (or any oil cooler for that matter)? I plan on installing an HRC kit this winter (while the car is garaged), so I am doing some prep. work now.

I got a B&M Super Cooler

It's HUGE! It's suppose to be for those Muscle cars. Problem is that it didn't come with the right size adapter. i got he one for a 4.6 liter mustang engine. I just went an bought another adapter at Frey Racing. It's hella easy to make you own oil cooler and cheaper. Just buy one of those sandwich adapter for 30 bucks and get some thick oil hoses and find a core in the junkyard. I can't tell how well my oil cooler gets but it gets REALLY hot.

Hades,

I was looking at your cooler in an earlier post. Your right it is huge, and I don't think it will fit under my front bumper. If I remember correctly, I don't have same amount of space on that side under the bumper. Do you even think an oil cooler is worth the trouble? Did your pressure drop after you installed the cooler?

Probably a couple of psi is all the oil cooler will drop the pressure, but yes it should drop a little. I still want to add one to mine... I was thinking B&M Import as well... do you know if the thread size is right for the adapter that comes with it?

Since not very many people have an oil cooler, I am thinking money might be better spent on something else. I am going to JEGS tonight and take a look at the cooler and see if I can find a place to mount it on my car.

Do you have a turbo? Just wondering, the reason I got mine was because the engine gets really hot after installing the turbo and all that hot oil going through the turbo has gotta suck. I even run thicker oil 20w-50. As for pressure I have no idea, there is pressure, mine is an RS so I don't have an oil pressure gauge. emoji Haha I saw the low oil light go on for like 30 seconds trying to fill that cooler up, do your engine and you heartr a favor and disconnect the spark and crank the engine a couple time before you fire her up hehe.... I believe the cooler displaced about a quart of oil also. So more oil capacity has gotta be good right?

Just make sure the adapter has a is ¾-16 thread size, I had to hunt that down from a racing shop to get mine to work. An oil cooler is never a bad idea, but you might want one if you turbo.

All of my temps and gauges stayed the same, oil psi dropped like 1 psi and oil temp dropped a couple dergrees max at coasting or WOT, but I didnt think I had a good place for it, engine bay is getting packed pretty damn tight now, so I got rid of it... If you have a good place for it and want to blow a little money, i'm sure your engine wouldnt mind a bit, any little bit of change it causes is saving your engine some life...

I'm NA and want one... cooler engine is ALWAYS better. More oil is good too. I think it should fit very nicely behind the opening on the passenger side. I'd like a kit with a filter relo too.

Hey Hades,

When you drain your oil, do you drain the cooler as well? If so, how do you drain the cooler? Just disconnect the bottom tube from the cooler and let the cooler and tube drain?

Nah I just drain the pan I don't drain the cooler. Nobody does that on trucks and stuff so I guess it's ok. But you could do that. The reason i probably don't is that this cooler it HUGE, it barely fit in the passenger side scoop. It's so big that there's a little bulge coming off the side of my bumper where the oil fitting hit the bumper. If I can fit this bad boy in my bumper I'm sure you can fit something smaller. I just tie wrapped it to that canister type thingie on the passenger side. HELLA tie wraps hehe. You can always mount it in the front also, that's where they recommend you put it but I knew someday I'd get a FMIC so I'm glad I chose where I put it now.
