#8524, "engine cleaner and turbo??"

hey peeps, imma slap on a turbo timer on the gsx soon but first i wanna run some engine cleaner(the ish you put in place of oil and run it for 10 miles then flush and put in oil) but i wanna know if it might have any negative effects on the engine or turbo with the engine being on 102,000 miles. the engine runs strong and hella good but one of my v8 junky friends was like "putting synthetic on a high milage enginge will more than likely do more bad than good casue it will break away lots of deposits that the engine has kinda got used to and the breaking apart might result in leaks or something." he said he tried that on some old a$$ truck of his and a rod bearing went out and he had to rebuild it. what should i do?

I heard that if you put synthetic in you have to stick with synthetic forever or else that happens. SOmething like that not sure though. I'm still running on regular oil, as long as you change it every 3k you should be fine.

no no he's talkin about the stuff that cleans the carbon out of the cylinders. chris your friend was right. as it is the carbon stuck in there could be stuck in open spots of your internals and keeps everything tight. if you clean it out your lose spots are opened up and you may get things like blow by. just leave it alone if it runs good. i mean i know you love the car but it runs alright so don't fix it.

You can run synthetic if you want to Klipz. Jenni and I have been using Mobil 1 in our 91 Eclipse with 111,000 miles since we bought it with about 95,000 miles. Mobil 1 is the only oil I recommend as far as the 4G63 goes. It may also clear up any lifter tick your car may have. My old 95 Talon TSi had lifter tick as did the 91 Eclipse and Mobil 1 fixed 'em both. Our 90 Talon has had Mobil 1 for years and I recently pulled the valve cover off and everything including the HKS cams were so clean they looked brand new! I would stay away from the engine flush and instead change the oil to Mobil 1 (stay away from Fram filters!) and flush the coolant. Also, I too had always thought that once you changed to synthetic that you couldn't go back to regular oil, but I found out that as long as you do a full oil change you can go back to regular oil.

The deal with changing to synthetics with high mileage is that if you have worn or barely sealing seals the added slipperyness of synthetics may cause them to leak. Thats the only reason some manufacturers caution switching to synthetics beyond 50K miles. If your seals are good than do it. As far as engine flushing I dont know WTF it will or wont do which is good enough reason for me not to do it. I thought I was changing the oil and using fuel system cleaner to keep it clean!!

Oh is it ever expensive! But it's definately worth it. I showed JustOne the cams on our 90 Talon today and he was impressed with how clean it is. emoji I'm not too sure about what Stan2gnt mentioned about the synthetic being more slippery and thus going past bad seals easier because I used to think that myself until a few people told me that the molecules in synthetic actually make seals expand and so it would be better for older seals, or something like that. emoji But anyways you shouldn't have any problems. I don't know if anyone mentioned this or not but I would also suggest replacing your fuel filter very soon if you haven't already. If it gets too clogged then the ECU will detect knock since not enough fuel is getting to the motor and thus retard timing, I have to replace the one on our Eclipse soon as it's getting exessive knock now and everything else is ok. That's where a pocketlogger comes in extremely handy! I thought the Eclipse was getting some knock but I didn't know how much until we datalogged last week, it's crazy what all you can find out with one of those. A buddy datalogged his Talon a few weeks ago and found out that he was only getting 55% of full throttle with it floored, took out the floor mat and got almost 70%, found out that the throttle cable had WAY too much slack. Funny huh?
