I have a 420a motor in my 96 and I love my car. I know what alot of people say, go buy a turbo GS-T/GS-X. However, I would like to keep my car.

My question is, to those with a 420a that has a turbo, do you like it? Just looking for an overall review/opinions. I may want to turbo mine someday. Thanks!

I love my turbo 420a. But I also like working on it too. It is a commitment that I think is worth it, as long as you take the initiative to in learn everything that you can about the engine as well as turbo charging and fuel management.

Here is another post on the same subject.

Just plan on spending some money on your turbo 420A.
Turbo Kit $2000-$3000
Built Bottom End $1500 MINIMUM
Built Top End $1200 MINIUM(not required but a nice to have)
Clutch $300-$700
Fuel System to support higher boost $300-(sky is the limit here)

So to get you going with expect to spend upwards of $4000. Which is about what most of the people running higher power levels are doing. Now you don't have to do this all at once. You can run the basic kit without the engine upgrades but you won't be satisfied. Once you get boost you will want more.

I sold my turbo and all related systems, and I'm selling my 2GNT too.

It was totally worth it.

I just don't have the time and money to keep pouring into it.

its like a drug
you get a decent dyno number
and then see where someone else has wrung a few more out of the same engine
then you get jealous and want more
then when you do get higher numbers
the same thing happens again

but the look on peoples faces when they realize that they just got blew away by a GS eclipse is worth every penny

For the hastle I've gone through, I wish I would have bought a turbo'd car and worked from there. I've spent alot of cash so far but I've taken no short cuts with my 420a. But you have to know what you truely want out of your car and how much you will spend to get it there. I started with the 3k turbo kit that was to come with everything you need and I'm into about 7k right now and still building. Research! I wish I would of before I started my 420a.

Boostin your 420A is completely worth it IMO!

Like some said above you don't have to do everything at once. I myself just installed the HRC Stage 2 with upgraded fuel system for right now and I am only boostin the recommmended 7psi on stock clutch, head, and bottem end internals. You will hear people tell you time and time again do not run more then 7psi on stock internals...yes you can do it and it may last for a while but it puts a lot of stress on your motor and if not upgraded will eventually break down on you.

But welcome to 2gnt and also another thing you will hear here a lot is SEARCH!!! So please before you post a question please use the search function here on the site, and you will find that almost every question you have has already been asked before as well as answered before.

Enjoy the site, you will learn a lot!

I just boosted last week and so far everything is great. Worth every penny in my opinion. I left my RS badge on just for the hell of it, I get so many wierd looks now. haha.

Also the engine sounds so mean and loud. Sounds like a friggin race car. I just about shit my pants after I heard it for the first time. It also took away the gay rattle I had before from my stock muffler emoji

I agree as well with everything said, and I even have a blown built motor as we speak. I can't re-emphasize enough what was said above. Have money and knowledge ... and some more money. These cars were not built to be boosted, so you need to build them so they are. That takes cash and care. I won't give you the grand total I've poured into my car (don't want to scare you) but let's just say I could have bought another car by now. I obviously don't know how old you are, but build a budget around you car. Summary: have money. emoji

Yah listen to what techboy says and really take it into SERIOUS consideration before boosting.

I have also spent a serious amount of money since I have been boosted. Its a lot of little things that add up to a large amount. More money then you would ever think it would cost for a bunch of odds and ends.

So just have extra on tap for those "OH man I don't have that and I really need it right now" type of situations. And downtime if you can't find the part in local stores that you might have to order. So have other means of transportation as well.

All that and you still haven't even gotten into the tuning aspect of boostin.

Not trying to discourage you in the least man, just want you to be ready for what can and will happen.
