#8448, "Change Boost level without boost controller?"
Well I tested out my turbo this weekend and broke it in a bit....I drove it around for a good 300 miles to break it in a bit...I do feel that it does push quite a bit but the thing that I dont like that the boost level cuts out at 5 psi. I have a stage 2 and was curious why this is. I have been reading up on this for quite a while but have always assumed that the boost would be around 7-10....well now that I know its only 5 is there any way without getting a boost controller to raise the boost without blowing my engine....I know on the top of the wastegate you can change the setting with a alan wrench but what could be the down falls of this...well I would like some info on this because 5 psi is good but I think 7 or 8 would even be better...Oh yeah my wastegate says seven on it so is 7 the highest amount of boost i can pull out of the wastegate even with a boost controller or can it boost more. any help will be appreciated....Thanks

Which kit do you have? And what other mods do you have?
Any turbo kit with a stock exhaust system will be hard pressed to hold boost over 5psi for an extended period of time. Don't touch your wastegate or boost controller till you are sure that is the problem.

Also, the allen headed bolt in the wastegate isn't for boost control, but for compensating for boost creep or spikes. It is possible to lock the wastegate shut by turning that screw too much, which means boost will skyrocket. (boom)
You have a 7PSI actuator in your wastegate, if it's a STAR stage 2, which equates to around 5PSI at the intake manifold. You can likely turn up the boost via a boost controller (it's the only way, other than swapping the spring out on your wastegate with a higher rated one) but not much. if you do, don't get crazy, and watch your a/f and EGT... If you don't have gauges, don't even try.
