it might be coolant, in which case your headgasket is toast beyond belief and blowing coolant out the exhaust and turbo.

you have a 420a? or a 4g63? i could see it being 'water' if you had a stock 4g63T with coolant lines running to the turbo, and those were leaking

but in any case, water from the downpipe is odd

water vapors in the exhaust STREAM are normal during cold start, but water running out of the downpipe is not a sign of a good running motor. what on earth are you talking about?

What are YOU talking about?

Water is a byproduct of Gasoline engine combustion. Usually its in steam form, but a minute amount of water is produced through the combustion process. Also condensation in the exhaust can usually equate to a couple of teaspoons of water on startups or after shutting the car down.

yea thats exactly what i said, cold start its normal because condensed water is in the exhaust stream, but like i said RUNNING water from the downpipe is not normal. steam yes, because fuel has water in it and when the hydrogen is burned and mixed with oxygen it forms water. like i said, its normal in the exhaust STREAM but not like flwoing out of the downpipe. ive run open downpipe for a long time with my cutout open and ive never, ever had it drip water.

mmmk. i must be blind, because ive never seen it drip from my downpipe.

out of the tailpipe yes, SLIGHTLY...but only when cold and warming up. it goes away when its warm.

If you were running an open dp, it would be the tail pipe or the end of your exhaust system at that point. The water/vapor would come out at the end of whatever exhaust system your using.

hmm, yea makes sense. like i was sayin though, i run open dp from time to time...and its never once dripped water. just water vapor at best, but only when cold.

You're both right.

When gasoline combusts, one of the byproducts is water vapor or steam.
-AND-
When CO (carbon monoxide) and HC (hydrocarbon) vapors enter the catalytic convertor, CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H20 (water) come out the other end.

I would say it's highly unusual for the water vapor to condense into water (liquid) in such a small space as a downpipe, but it's possible. It's far more likely to have it condense after the catalytic convertor which creates even MORE water vapor through catalyzation. At any rate, water from the tailpipe is perfectly normal. From the downpipe, you may want to make sure that's actually water.

thats what im sayin.

i know water is a byproduct of gasoline combustion, but its not like once the exhaust moves past the exhaust valves its like liquid water or anything, come on. if its DRIPPING from a hot downpipe, that just strikes me as odd...

i agree with turb tho, water is a by-product of any combustion, but being from a hot downpipe is odd, the by-product shouldnt condense that fast.

Hold your hands up to your tailpipe and they will be wet with dripping with water in 20-30 seconds.

I think the real issue here is how much water is leaking out of the downpipe. If it is slow dripping don't worry about it. If it is more than slow dripping be worried!
