#83856, "Garrett GT-30"

I've been looking at CFMs that certain turbos produce. The turbos that I'm looking at are the Super 16g, 20g, and GT-30. Out of all of them, the GT-30 has the best. Now to my actual question, how many people are running this setup on their car? I'd imagine it's 4g63 guys. Also, would it take an adapter plate in order to bolt this turbo up to my 95 GSX?

Since you're a 4g63 guy, I'd suggest getting an FP3052 or FP3065. They are GT-30 turbos with DSM friendly housings. See www.forceperformance.net

man fp3065 is huge, only dothat if you have the mods behind it, you should try a 20g, its a really nice turbo and bolts right on the 4g manifold

From what I gathered from forcedperformance.net, these are very capable turbos. This is exactly what I was looking for. However, why does the 52 have anti-surge inlets and the 65 doesn't??

I am in the process of tuning a Garrett 3052. Using a portfueler with 500cc injectors, and a Tial 38mm wastegate. Just got it running Sunday evening. Tonight is the first chance I had to do some logging. Spool-up is quicker than I anticipated(very similar to the 16g). Only running 12lb of boost at this time as I have some serious tuning ahead of me. The guys at Forced Performance were instrumental in my purchase of this turbo. They seemed to know their stuff when it came to answering my questions. I highly recommend this turbo.

Looks like you and I are gonna be pretty good friends in about 3-4 months. Keep posting in here to let me know how things are looking and going with the turbo (hp/tq, lb/min, even mpg haha). I'm so pumped about getting a GT-30, but I have bigger things to worry about now.

Retard...

There is nothing wrong with wanting a $300 downpipe to bolt to a new turbo.

look at a gt30 exhaust housing, and look at your mitsubishi turbo...then ask yourself if you think it will 'bolt on'...you're just to used to opening boxes and reading intructions, and it cracks me up "mr. 400whp"

im laughing at your lack of common sense, the fact you can LIKELY answer your own question...and the fact you paid 300$ for a downpipe.

Both of you, GROW UP. The HRC 3" downpipe uses a 3" V-band clamp (did you know that Josh?). Anything that uses a V-band clamp will bolt up. Also, even if the turbine housing isn't straight to a V-band discharge flange doesn't mean you can buy the flange and then make a v-band adapter (just like the one that comes with the HRC 3" downpipe kit).

You problem will really lie in that your DP will expect the turbo in a particular place. The HRC manifold is expecting a 10cm^2 mitsu housing that puts the turbine discharge in a particular place. Now if you are using a completely different turbo (thus having a different turbine housing) the discharge will most likely be in a different place. You would have to compensate for this difference somehow. If there is a gap then the V-band adapter can be made to fill the gap ... if there isn't a gap (they overlap) then there isn't much you can do without major modification. Of course this is all assuming you are trying to bolt it up to HRC manifold (there maybe other clearance issues with bolting up a GT turbo ... the flange will work fine ... both uses t3 flanges).

Keep this thread civil. If you want to discuss or debate the technical aspects of trying this fine but do not start attacking one another. And lastly, I don't want to see any posts promoting any squabbling either ... ie Blair's "Broke Off" post.

Didn't Avenger just say don't be a smart ass?

And by the way, NO it doesn't fit. The outlet on my FP3065 is a 2.5" v-band, the HRC DP is a 3" v-band I believe and the turbos are different sizes too...

The outlet on the GT30 has a four bolt not a v-band

It depends what kind of a turbine housing you get. You can buy up a 3 bolt, 4 bolt, and different V-band clamp housings. Respectfully asking....why did you purchase a $300 downpipe?

I said you would need a V-band adapter ...

For your GT discharge

Nifty 3 bolt

Standard 5 bolt

I'm sure there are 2.5" v-band to 3" v-band adapters as well. Like I was saying before ... its not going to be that hard to get the downpipe to mate to the exhaust side of the turbo (ie 2 ends that will fit together). Its going to be hard to get the turbo in the right spot because you have your manifold outlet (which you can't more) and your downpipe inlet (which you can't mode) so the turbo HAS to fit between and connect the 2. That setup was designed with the mitsu s20g exhaust housing in mind. Trying to get another turbine housing to have the same sort of dimensions is going to be the hard part.

If we are still talking about the turbo fitting to the HRC DP..then you would have to cut a section of the DP off in order for it to clear because you are extending the length with those V-band adapters unlike the FP series where you have the V-band on the housing...

why am I wasting space with this? Just get a custom DP and be done with it

We're just arguing here but you wouldn't have to cut a section of the downpipe off. The 10cm^2 housing is phyically "longer" than a standard GT exhauast housing and t3 exhaust housing. Also the HRC downpipe requires an adpater as well to convert the 3bolt discharge to the v-band. If anything the adapter constructed would need to be longer for the GT turbo. And don't bother arguing this point with me because I've acutally seen bolted it to an HRC manifold and it is further from the downpipe than the HRC super whatever turbo.

actually.. it seems hardly any modification will be needed. I already found a 4 bolt v-band flange.
