ive heard everything from pure water, to meth/water, to alcohol, to the heat shit you put in your gas tank? supposively its pure methanol? ive also heard of windshield fluid which i know contains meth, but how much?....that would be the easiest and cheapest i think....any thoughts? who has used what and had best results with what? thanks doug

easiest and cheapest is going to be a 50/50 alcohol/h2o mix...AKA window washer fluid!

i use distilled water and denatured alcohol. the alcohol you can buy at a hardware store like denaults, its not to expensive at all. it leaves like a film on your skin if you touch it and the smell is very distinct. it works great though, and something about hosing my intake with windshield fluid (practical useor not) just makes me laugh. i'll never do that. just my .02 though.

Another thing to consider is the fact that water will hlep bring temps down more effectively. The steam created also robs the combustion chamber of oxygen so power is actually robbed. Water is definately effective in reducing knock though and is used to battle heat in long races such as enduros and rallys. Pure alcohol is often used to help raise the octane value while also inhibiting heat(not as effective as pure water) and knock.

when you say alcohol do you mean the denatured alcohol like you find with the paint thinner at the home improvement store or isopropyl alcohol like you would use as a disinfectant
i just got my kit from cooling mist the excitement is in the air over a weekend of install
it wont take all weekend of course but pretending it will got me out of having to go see cats at the theatre

i also wondered about which "alcohol" to buy....is it just called denatured alcohol?.... i was planning on either using windsheild fluid (i would first like to find out what mixture of meth and water it is)....or that "HEET" stuff from auto parts stores, mixed with water.... have you ever had any bad expeirences with the windsheild fluid? thanks doug

Regarding water robbing hp...i would say before we have actual tests we canot say it robs hp...
Because when water evaporates it expands a whole lot more proportionaly than heated air....if this werent so why would the US airforce use Water Augumentation to increase thrust (up to 50% in some cases) in their jet aircraft..??
Someone needs to dino before and after (identical engines runing 110 octane...just to see if the WI steals noticeable power), then they can say it robs hp
BTW i just found this ...this seems to be the WI system i have been looking for all along

Just my .02 here guys, the airplanes that i work on use a 2:1 mixture of destilled wate/methanol for cooling with the purpose of being able to run take off power in hot weather while keeping egt's within normal limits.
