#83557, "No Boost for me!"

When I take off and pull through first gear the gauge doesn't read any boost...it just goes up from 20vac to 10vac, but I do feel a little boost at that time and when I press in the clutch to shift into second the bov goes off as well. From second on it boosts normally like it should by registering the 6psi on the gauge I am running.

I do know I have an exhaust leak but not sure if that would cause the issue I described to you above. What would cause it to only occur in first gear?

Most people ask for the setup so they can better assess the situation.

maybe a slight vacuum leak somewhere? And did you check all the couplers?

Nope haven't check anything yet, today was the first day driving it after the accident! I only have a total of 48 turbo miles so far. 33 miles were before the accident and only 15 miles today on my way to work.

I will check all vacuum lines and couplers today on my lunch break.

Thanks for the quick response!

Points for you!

I get an hour for lunch so I am just going to roll up my sleeves and have a look during that time and then go over it again when I get home from work as well. I will let you all know what I find out!

Thanks again everyone!

when you press the pedal to the floor the gauge should read 0 since the throttle plate is all the way open. sounds liek a poss gauge bad and maybe a leak or kinked hose.

ummm....well typically in a turbo 4 banger, first is never that glamorous anyway. second you really spool up quick because of the increased load on the motor.

you shouldnt even really be boosting in first with a 16g until like 4000, second at about 2300-3000. at least thats ballpark figures for what ive seen.

Well in first I don't feel any boost unless I tach her up to about 5k. If I am in neutral and rev it up to 5k the bov will not sound, but thats probably normal...dunno!!! 2nd gear I boost around 3.5k.

I will check all vac lines after work....had to work through lunch today!

Yes that's normal, there isn't any load on the motor. Check for leaks in your IC piping, leaks in your vacuum lines and finally check the line leading to the boost guage for kinks.

Hey man.....Just to let you know you will not get any boost in 1st unless you are reving past 4500. Since you are only going between 6-7 psi 2nd and 3rd gear is when you should see boost on the gauge. My thought is just like everyone elses. you have a boost leak somewhere. Mine was right at the IC to the TB. Just needed to get better clamps. Check it out and good luck.

I would still check for leaks, just incase. I can hit 10psi in first, but like^^^ said, IM hittn that at like 4k.

What everyone else said, but also check that the wastegate arm didnt come off of the flapper..The tiny pin that holds that arm onto the flapper is known to either break or fall out.. I used a small cotter pin instead of that cheesy clip they give with the kit, after that happened to me..It should still get to at least 0 on the boost gauge though..

About two years ago when I first got my Hahn 16G kit I had boost problems too. I checked all of the IC connections and fittings, no luck. Called Hahn tech support, they said to add two spacers (really thick washers) on the two bolts that hold wastegate to the turbo. I was only getting like 5psi when I should be getting 8-9psi or whatever it was with the stock boost. Xtreme's idea is a good one too.

If you know someone with an extra mechanical boost guage laying around , I would tap that in real quick and take it for a spin to see if your guage is faulty. I say this becausee you say the boost still can be felt but its not registering.

you hit the nail on the head man! I am contacting Autometer to have them send me a new gauge and I will send this one back. The gauge is not calibrated correctly.
