#82983, "Custom Turbo Kit Questions"
Feb-20-05 07:42 PM by EclipseTenzoR

So I'm going to put a custom kit together and I have decided to go with a 14B for quick spool in my autox and around the town fun with low boost around 6psi. Now I need a manifold for my car that will alow me to bolt the 14B on, does anyone know where I can get one made? Also, as for the downpipe would it be easy to just get a downpipe from a 1g and have an exhaust shop modify down to the cat? The internal wastegate also proves to be a problem, I found a link on how to modify the actuator, but I dont quite understand how to go about placing a spring on there. I will have many questions as I continue through my quest to get my car turbo charged, but this is it for now.

P.S- The 14B is A t/3 turbo correct? That is the flange I would need for the custom manifold?

Thanks In Advance

Mike

here, this is my setup with the 14b...you cant use the 1g downpipe, it wont work...you need to make your own...that was the worst part... i was able to modify the wastegate to work... 2 people on this site make the manifolds for our car...alian? and shit, cant think of the other guy, but they're both good manifolds.... hope this helps

So what do I do about the downpipe? Just buy one from a junker take it to an exhaust shop and have them custom make one for me and cut the flange off the old downpipe to mount it to the custom dp up to the o2 housing on the turbo?

what i did was get a flange for the 14b...i think you can get one from slowboyracing.com...get the 02 housing flange...then i just made a coathanger into the shape of the downpipe to fit into my greddy downpipe....then another hanger into the shape of the wastegate and got an exhaust place to bend me the pipes....i then cut and welded them...it was a pain in the ass to get them to fit right, but its definitely doable...i dont know what an exhaust shop would charge....to be honest, i think a t3 setup would be a lot easier....one out of a thunderbird or something

I believe you can use the stock manifold for the 14b. It was explained earlier in a thread below. The spool up is hellish, cuz it's quick. But if it's a 2 bolt, it will fit the stock manifold. I got this from reading another thread below.

Yeah, another guy is doing the exact same thing in the thread below yours: http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=82997&mesg_id=82997&page=

And I'm sure there's more custom kit threads around here..

Yeah, I know you're not doing the stock mani with the 14b, but you are making a custom 14b setup.

for the wastegate, my understanding is it works like this. you cut the wastegat actuator rod, and thread the piece that connects to the diaphram. then you place a spring on it and push it against the diaphram. now you place a washer against the bottom of the spring, and then screw a couple nuts on there until they are up against the washer. now the more you tighten the nuts, the more pressure will be applied to the internal spring of the wastegate, the easier the wastegate will open which means that the wastegate will open for a smaller boost pressure. if im wrong someone correct me but im pretty sure thats how it works. then just weld the rods back together.

You said to thread the piece? How would you go about doing that? Also, what part is the diaphram?
