Well, the time is almost here! I've just about saved enough cash to purchase either a star or hahn stage two kit. (I'm pretty stoked!) I was just wondering if I should retain my nitrous kit and spray it on the intercooler? Has anyone here done this? I've seen both a local evo and srt4 guy do this. They seem to be pretty happy.

Will my stock bottom end hold or possibly be fatigued by this for any reason? (most likely 8-9psi)

I'm hoping the extra chill might bump up my power numbers a considerable bit.

I'll be running MSnS so I should have a strong grasp on the fuel trims and such.

All info is appreciated!

I do not realistically see cooling down your intake air temperatures seriously affecting your bottom end directly. Turning up the boost a tad because of cooler temperatures will.

Yea, I think you're right on with that. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this and whether or not the gains are significant.

Don't waste NO2 on the outside of the intercooler. It works best in the motor. CO2 is the cheaper and smarter alternative.

N20 is -196*C
C02 is -78*C

Therefore N20 is ~2.5x COLDER than CO2. (actually a little more!)

CO2 is depleted oxygen, depending on how close it is to the intake's filter, this could be a very bad idea. C02 is a byproduct of combustion, therefore it won't burn well (if at all) if it is induced into the motor. (Hence EGR removal...) I'm not saying it will get into the motor, but it could.

So basically:

"These are not for on the fly use. Yes to reduce heat soaking and to use them before a run or in between." (This will negate any drastic changes during the run.)

"They found the best thing is to freeze up the intercooler before the run and not use it during the run due the fact of running lean. That way you have a nice cold intercooler while under boost but not too cold. If you spray while under boost you car will potentially lean out and then...."


EDIT: On the possibility of the boost spiking, I think this could only be a possibility if I sprayed during the run. It's late so I'll save my explanation for later.

IMO dont do it till youve exhausted every other option, when youve got a stage 5 setup and need more power then spray the IC.

I actually bought one of those kits (NX) and ended up converting to the wet system...So, If you don't like it or can't find any hp gains (most people don't) on the dyno then you can just switch by purchasing another solenoid,jets, etc...

Like what someone else said earlier you are better off using that expensive gas on the inside of your motor...

I'm thinking about using the left over parts and use paintball Co2 lines, regulator and 20oz. bottle mount for a custom intercooler sprayer. It's a hell of a lot cheaper and does the basically the same thing..

Well I've already got a ZEX wet kit, so there will be no other out of pocket expense there. I can probably fab up the spray bar with some copper tubing and a -4an fitting.

I'm gonna check on the pressures of c02 vs. n20 and see if I can use my bottle to hold co2 as well.

I used to play paintball all the time. You could probably rig something up with the remote system.

I mean, if I can milk 10 extra HP on the stock bottom end I'll be very pleased until I get a built bottom end.

I seriously doubt that any escaping CO2 would get into the intake tract.

If you want to lower your intake temps and not run the risk of boost spiking or running lean, I would suggest you invest in a water injection kit. However, with the injection kit, you can turn the boost up, but it is not advised on stock internals. I'm not sure how much they can take.
