My egt gauge needle points straight down and does not move. I know it is hooked up right, because a few other gauges are wired to the same places and they work fine. In addition, I had to drill out the ring terminals to fit over the treaded studs on the back of the gauge. Did anyone have this problem? I know my needle has taken some blows and has some small dents and scrapes on it. I am trying to trouble shoot the problem and could use some help.

What brand/model gauge and what brand/model probe? I would remove everthing from the car and do some tests. Eliminate the possibility of bad wiring. Hook the gauge power directly up to the battery and see if the needle moves. Mine will jump to ~100F when you apply power (with the engine off).

If you get the chance, with the entire gauge setup out of the car try dipping the end of the probe into a cup of boiling water. The needle should definately move.
