About three weeks ago, I took in my manifold, turbine housing and exhaust dampener to be coated. It is a mirror finish that resembles crome. It looks nice and I will post some pics next week probably.

The reason I did it is that I wanted to keep under hood temperatures down. It would appear to of worked. There is far less heat under there now. Things aground the turbo components don't get hot at all now. my hood used to get very hot also but that doesn't happen now. I guess it is 30 deg colder now but I would think it wouldn't make a huge difference. It’s nice not looking at rusted steel too.

The coating cost me 250 dollars to get the three things done. The hardest part was tearing apart everything got take them in and then reassembling them.

So what is your engine bolted up to? Also, that price is pretty high. Hahn coated mine for less than that, and there is a place north of here that does it for $12 per foot for one side. Either way, it's the shit. I'm gonna get my downpipe coated as soon as I redo the bottom half.

I got mine coated from HRC when I bought my kit. It was nice and shiny when I got it. But after I put a couple of hundred miles on it the manifold and turbine housing turned a dull grey. Has anyone else had this happen?

yea that price is high.

I had my star mani done, turbine, 2 piece 3" dp done for 250.00.

The turbine and dp are 2000+ ceramic coating. that nice silver you have will not withstand 1550 degrees i dont care what they tell you. I have proof they dont hold up.

Does look much nicer though.

shit, i wansn't sure if it would. it' will probably melt off on the inside if anything. i hope that doesn't damage the turbine blades. what's this proff you speak of?

i talked to the people about it doing that, they said it wouldn't, i know the gasses get about that hot, but i wouldn't expect the metal to be that bad. i'll let you guys know if it melts off.

yeah, i'm from asog, or whatever. i have an avenger with a garrett t-3 my turbo.

i don't think they're telling you the coating's gonna melt off. they're just telling you not to expect the shiny finish to last. i'm pretty sure it's still gonna be doing its job of retaining heat - it just won't look as pretty.

hahn sends out their shit to get ceramic coated. i called today and brad said it was 60 bucks for the manifold. im getting mine done.

Grain i dont think Hahn does the high luster coating...that is what is so expensive because they have to polish it. 60.00 sounds right for the silver coating, its roughly 90.00 for the high luster.

Yes i am saying the high luster wont stay forever, My Star manifold was an error of the shop, they coated it with high luster and i hit high 1500's there for a while when my reg failed, and the coating is a dirty looking silver now. it shouldn't melt off.
