This one:
http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/

OR

http://www.atpturbo.com/root/releases/release091004.htm

I've been thinking of getting one of these and read some discussions on em. The QTEC is cheaper, but has the disadvantage of having a motor which can wear out. The ATP one is boost activated which means it won't really help your spool or low end as much as the QTEC, but is hands-free. Hmmm..I wonder how fast the valve opens, and it'd be hectic when shifting.

I would buy the electric one. I wouldn't want it opening all the time. What if you are simply in traffic and get on it.. It will get too loud and annoying.

how is the qtec one not hands free? don't you just leave it open the whole time you're at the track (or having fun on the street)? or are you supposed to be opening it only at certain rpms/boost levels (in which case i can see how the atp woul be better) emoji

you open it at the track or dyno ect. you leave it open so its not dependant on boost.

my question is: how are you suppposed to get these great results if there is nothing preventing the exhaust from continuing to flow out of the regular pipe.
am i correct in thinking this would not be that great of a mod to have if you already have a much less restrictive exhaust like a 3" turbo back with test pipe?

open air is still open air and will be better than a 3" pipe.

I would prefer the wastegate style one. I kinda like the sound of my engine when I get on it. I also believe that one might be more durable. Electronics and 6-800 degrees just seems wrong. But I could totally be wrong.

^^^^^ what he said and if you dont like the idea of it coming on all the time, just run a valve into the interior so you can turn it off anytime you want.

what stops the gas from blowing past the cut-out and continuing thru the exhaust?
i understand the logic of less restriction, i know that some will go thru the cut-out but what makes it the "preferred" route when open? theres nothing stopping the gas from blowing right past it.

Nothing, besides that nice, shiny, restriction at the end of your exhaust system. it's called a muffler.

Its more of a path of least resistance kinda thing.

I run the qtec one and have had to replace the motor in it once. The guy is really great to work with and fair on pricing. Those of you at the shootout heard mine, its pretty fn loud. I got it b/c i was sick of the fart pipe sound and its worked great. With a stock gst exhaust i see 15-16 psi but lots and lots of lag, reaching full boost well past 5k on a t3/t4. With it open and no adjustments to the avc-r I see 19-21 psi and full boost by 4300. The difference is crazy. You all know how small the inner diameter of a gst exhaust is so this thing is doing pretty well. I have a 2.5" cutout. If you had a full 3" dp w/ a 3" cutout you'd have pretty much zero back pressure and lots o'spool. Its great for the sleeper factor too.

400whp or bust.

no electronics huh....how about a rubber diaphragm. its not like your wastegate that is 5" away from the turbine.
