a friends motor in his NT 97 talon just blew. it started to misfire cyl 2 and then made a huge bang, then ran very shitty obviously on 3 cylinders. i did a compression test for him and cyl 2 came out to 0psi....now i thought this was kind of odd, it may have either blown that piston to fuck or a possibility of a bent valve (intake or exhasut) my next step is a leak down but i was wondering, if a 420a pops like that....how on earth COULD it bend a valve? the timing belt was perfectly fine, etc...so its not like it skipped a tooth and got any interference when it shouldnt have

anyway, what do you think?

I bet theres a hole in either the piston top or one of the valves.

Look thru the spark plug hole with a flashlight, and you should be able to see it pretty easily.

If not, pull the pan and look for piston chunks.

If no chunks, its probably a chipped/broken valve face. Look for it in the catalytic convertor inlet or the exhaust port.

Although the head is designed with clearance, it is completely possible to bend the valves... your pal may not have in this case, but I've replaced valves twice this year due to the belt tensioner braking in both cases. If you don't see anything through the spark plug port, he may be stuck tearing it apart to find out the whole deal.
