okay, was mulling things around in my head, and came up with this as a possible casue of my Mystery tickiing... what do you think?

since it only happens in boost, could a single injector not working properly on my secondary rail cause the ticking noise (knock or mini detonation) which consiquently would cause less fuel than needed for the cylinder in question? could this still allow me to read normal A/F ratios overall with the wideband?

ohh poo... wait.. how would that explain the ticking going away when it warms up outside? shit...

well, lets run with it anyway... what would i expect to see with the spark plug for the cylinder in question, if the above scenario was a cause?
input please?

USED TO HAVE...Everything you wish you had, and then some...

if an cylinder ran lean. youd see it in your afr. you would blow it up. you would hear much more than a slight ticking noise. haha. the spark plug will be black if its rich, white if its lean. the spark plug would be very white if you were running that lean. keep in mind you would have blown your motor by now.

If for instance you had a bad connection or a cold solder join then yes you could have one injector not working right like you are saying.

And yes you could more than likelly still survive... chances are your either getting some detonation, and that's the noise... or maybe the noise is the injector itself... they can be noisy sometimes. emoji

I have NO idea what has been discussed with your problem, I no it has been on going and I no you have probably had many different answers. Forgive me if this has been said, but I had a problem like this before. When I used 10-w-30 regular oil, after a cold start up, I would tick like hell until it warmed up, and the oil pressure went down. It was my lifters. Now, I am on 5-w-30 pure syn. motor oil and it doesn’t really do it any more. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

His description of the problem said it only does it in boost when cold... this would tend to rule out lifter tick... Because you would expect lifter tick to happen all the time, or at least all the time when cold, not just under boost.

Question...
When you have this ticking noise, does the boost respond correctly? Does boost build as quick as it normally does?

boost still builds as normal, nothing seems outa place other than that damn ticking.

no, i havent changed plugs yet...but heres what they look like.
the last 3 LOOK a bit whiter than they really are, they are more like the first one, a nice grey-whiteish.

They look fine to me. Actually, the three on the right are very light, all mine usually look like the first one.

yeah a good mixture is when it's like a brownish color at the electrode, so it's not a good sign that it's whitish. look at the electrode real well...you should see like a slight line that's burned on it. that would tell you if you're too advanced or too retard. take pics of the electrode REAL close up.

The reason I was sayin plugs is because if one isn't seated correctly you cna get a little exhaust leak past the threads. Make sure they'r all tightened down.

This is one fucked up problem Tim. emoji
