Hey all, i own a 1999 GS and i am eventually thinking about forced air in some form. Everyone says HRC or Star. I heard HRC is the best and STAR only spools at high RPMS. Well i wanna know if a 4g63t swap is possible. I hear its a great engine. i mean all the Evos use it. Dont get me wrong i love my 420A, there strong as hell but im looking for the most efficient way to get a turbo under my hood. PLEASE ANY FEEDBACK OR IMPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! Buy an HRC kit. 4g63 swap is expensive, very time consuming, and unreliable. I hate seeing that question asked.

i would definatly just get a turbo kit. the 4g63 is probally one of the strongest engines out there and is going to handle boost a lot better than a 420a but if your going to do that, you might as well sell your car and buy a gst cause it would be cheaper than doing the swap. also i love my hrc kit and that they have 5 stages where as star only has 2(?). i dont have hardly any experience with the star kit but i would think the spool up on it would be quicker because star uses a ball bearing turbo.

Well what stage do you have in yours and how much did you pay for it? I know the stage 2s are like 3000 but im trying to find anything cheaper then that.

I would suggest going with a stage 1 then. intall it, feel comfortable with it, learn, and then as you get more $$ add the necessary options needed to increase boost (intercooler, injectors, built bottom end, etc).

If you have to ask then the 4g swap is not for you.

I personally think STAR was a good choice. Not the best, but with the money you save you can pick the parts you want.

As for the It only has stage 2, well which one of you actually plans to buy the other stages? You dont. You upgrade this part and that part when you can and in the end you have a stage 4, 5 or whatever. It doesnt really matter.

i had a star kit and would not have traded it for an HRC any day of the week. just a better kit IMO.. better manifold, better fuel system, better turbo, more power, FMIC included in stage 2, real DP.

to get a real DP, FMIC and a decent sized turbo from HRC its gonna end up costing you almost $4,000, and at 8psi, i would pit my money on the star kit winng that race anyday..

i ran at the track against an HRC stage 2 guy running 9psi, i was at 6.5psi..

he got a small jump because the 16g spooled a little bit faster but as soon as mine spooled i left him in the dust..

i ran a 14.50@98.38 to his 15.26@95.87 ...we both had 2.2 60' times...

I won't enter into a whole HRC vs. STAR debate....but ask yourself, where is the HRC kit better than STAR? Turbo is a matter of personnal preference, 16g will spool quicker, sure....but the T3/T4 has a lot more power potential, and the Ball Bearing version spools very quickly. Honestly, to me, the ONLY part where the HRC kit has an advantage is in customer service. And HRC has done a lot for the 420A platform. But, most all your ?'s can be answered on here, and as far as the "stages" being offered, you can normally put together you "own" stage 3 or 4 package cheaper by yourself. i would just research a lot, determine your power goal....then add 100hp to that goal, cause that is where you will eventually want to end up. goodluck.
