if you have the 420a: give it up!
if you have the 4g63: lots of money and better axles!

Bill hahn made around 500hp on a super 20g. I had a tsi that is why now I have a 420a. The 4g63 was nothing but a head for me personally. I know they make alot of power but with the right modifications a 420a can as well.. If they can make 1000hp saturns than anything is posible.

Funny what you can do when you're backed by the factory.

Bill Hahn made 500wHP because he sprays a 150 shot of nitrous.

While i am not doubting the ability of the 420A to make any amount of power, i think that the amount of time and resources needed to perform such a feat are a bit beyond the means of any one individual.

But hey.. throw that GT35/40R on it, add some cams, good headwork, a highly tunable engine management, and a big shot of nitrous, anything's possible.

biig turbo, biiig shot of NOS, stand alone EMS, and upgrade every other part of the motor that will break when you add those three(pretty much everything), and you are on your way to your goal emoji

alright what are some of the limmitations of the engine. Basically why would'nt it make over 500 hp at 30 pounds of boost. Just getting familiar with this engine. Also I know hahn had a 150 shot, but it was a 20g, not even a comparison as far as turbo's go in my opinion.

Indeed. BIG difference between a 20g and a GT35/40R.

No one has tried hard enough to find the upper limit of the 2.0L 420A. With good pistons and rods, half inch headstuds and the newest MLS headgasket, who is to say how far you can go?

Are you looking for encouragement or suggestions? if you have any specific querstions, i feel pretty confident i can answer them, or point you to people that can.

What hotside did you go with on your new turbo?

I do not know what kind of head gasket it has that kinda sliped my mind but like I said I have all winter. hmm intercooler set up? And I have had a hell of a time finding a manifold that I like. The things that I have read about port fueler is pretty tight. Is there any other ems that could compare or surpass..

The Mega Squirt would be a nice system to go with, esp if Mr. Slick gets the ignition worked out to use our stock crank sensor and stock coil pack. That way, you would have complete control of all your fuel needs through 4 injectors, and you would have complete control of your ignition timing, which for that kind of power, you will NEED to have. As far as an intercooler, try and match the CFM of the turbo to the CFM rating of the intercooler. With that size turbo, bigger will def be better. The port fueler setup would work for the fuel aspect, but you really need control of the ignition. As stated above, you will HAVE to drill out the block and head to fit 1/2" head studs to keep the head nice and tight against the block. Head work, cams, valvetrain upgrades, and prob some nitrous, would get you there. I know I'd love to see what the 420A can do power wise..It's my opinion that the open deck design of the 420A will be its ultimate downfall when getting to that power level..but that's just thoughts..

I like the idea of a deck plate that press fits into the coolant journals, with the minimal size passage used. Kinda an aftermarket fix for the partially open deck. I'm not thrilled with the cast crank either, by the way.

Semi-open, or better yet, not-closed. Ever seen a honda with its head off? THAT'S an open deck.

also block was brand new when it was built so it wasnt bored also the head is a pt cruiser head with pt cruiser rockers lashers. the head has also been machined to run a top end oil kit. also the block is setup up for a srt-4 headgasked just had to block off a oil passage in the block no real benifit from this probably but i can get headgasked cheaper this way i'm sure i'm going to blow a few

How are you running a PT cruiser head? The ports are reversed .. intake in the front and exhaust in the rear.

600bhp = ~60 psia = ~45 psi of boost.

I'm still curious about this PT head BS. He does know this isn't going in a Neon, right?

I'm sure, but the ports are backwards, as are the valves. the PT has a rear-exhaust head just like the Neon. Exhaust ports and intake ports, as well as exhaust valves and intake valves, are different sizes and i don't see how the could be interchanged with any real success.

Moreso than just seeing it, i'd like to see it on the car.

Sounds like people might finally be getting off their asses and actually pushing this engine for once. Good stuff from any angle. Let's get some huge turbo's on these things and see what happens.

I had a pt head in my possesion at one point in time and dumped it once I tried to line the thing up on my 2.2l block. If you have done this it is truely an amazing feat... I won't call BS though.
As a recomendation I would not try to go above 400whp with the PT rockers, I replaced mine after two failed...

As it was mentioned before you will need to have total control of timing to do this. My current set-up is Gen 7 DFI as standalone, 9.25:1 cp's, crane 18 cams, stainless valves, titanium retainers, 72lb inj., full port and polish intake/head, and a BR57 to mention a few. I wish you luck.

You know you could use the PT head on our block in our car... I always thought it would be... ummmm... interesting...LOL emoji
It would work, you'd just have the gay Neon setup with the exhaust at the back... you could have a nice ram air setup on the front though emoji

But I imagine space would be tight down the back of the block like that! How much room is there for an exhaust next to the driveshaft???

ok me and dino talked about this and came up with that it was a recasting or something but the head came with stainless steel valves on the exhaust side but regular on the intake. the head also came with pt rockers and lashers though. so basically darryl called it a pt head because it came with a abunch of pt parts or somethign like tha i guess. The top line oil kit i installed cost about 100 with all the lines and fittings and makes it alot safer to tach high

with my car i just didnt want to be a follower i wanted to create a beast of my own. there is nothing wrong with following hahn racecraft and there setups but if u do u can only be as fast as they were sometimes u just have to try ur own thing and take a chance of failing. i've put alot of time and money into my car and will continue to till i'm able to put down some insane hp numbers.
i've had alot of help through out the build so far and hope by the start of the next drag season i will beable to post some great dyno numbers and some good video of my car on here

fully built, gt70 turbo, and F.A.S.T standalone what more do i need to say thanks to jason,robert,darryl,2gnt,and sport compact pro

Just FYI, horsepower has nothing to do with stress on rocker arms. RPM does.

Thanx to those who kept on the topic. I know it's hard for some of you. I have found other ways to research this.. First off I have found that you do not need nawwz to reach close to 600hp. I have not found anyone that has used this size of turbo with as much boost as I would be running (30psi+) on the 420a. There are plenty of 2.0's that have made that kind of power with just a nice turbo setup. I will prove it you all. The only other thing I might need to find out is the best place to have the head fully built, very nice porting ect.. thanx matt

t3/t4, not comparable
25g, not comparable
20g, not even close

oh bye the way my buddy made 340whp using a t3/t4 on his gs. But really is there anybody that knows of a good shop for head porting ect... I really don't care about the pt crueser head, and I don't even know why that was brought up when ya say they are not good for over 400hp. Did ya see the subject title? Which doesn't make sence to me either. maybe they are just junk and the head that was on it in the first place could be better. Just a thought. But anyways that is'nt a concern it's way off the subject...
