well as of 2 am this morning for the first time in 9 months my car has started after its rebuild. it took alot longer than expected but I learned alot and thanks to the board for all the help. so far we have only started it, i didn't get to drive it yet. there still a couple things to do before then. it started with no problems whatsoever with 2 cranks, i was really impressed. we had no leaks or anything else. here are the things that were installed in the last 9 months.
i think that is about it for now. i know there is more, but i can't remember what it is. my question is, for break in can i just drive around with the intercooler piping off so that the motor never sees any boost?

NO! You will overspin the turbo as it tries to make pressure. It will keep spinning faster and faster and faster until A) it pressurizes the world's atmosphere (will never happen), or B) the CHRA gernades.

How does the AIC see boost? Its own map sensor? If yes, then it shouldn’t be much of a problem, cuz then it won’t be flooding your motor with fuel. BUT, I don’t see a real need to do that, just keep it in vac, at since you have a big turbo, it shouldn’t be a problem. You don’t need to go that extreme with your break in. IMO, its better to break in the motor with a LITTLE boost. I did --------------------------------------- "Oh yea, well...My manifold does cool twisty things"

just run the setup like you can boost. but dont get on it enought to make boost. you shouldnt be getting on your car enought during break in anyways to make bost.

My point is that the turbo is plumbed in such a way that it will keep spinning as fast as the exhaust will push it until it reaches it's boost level. With no load in the compressor side, it will reach it's maximum speed quickly, and pass it immediately thereafter. Know what happens to a turbo at 1 million RPM? Want to?

Fumbass is right. If you create a huge "boost leak" you'll over-rev the turbo and ruin it really fast.
I recommend a "get on it hard" break-in. Just lock open the wastegate and get on it all you want for a couple hundred miles.
After a rebuild, I always start the engine and let it idle 5 minutes. Then I change the oil. Then I take it for a spin and do about 25 miles of compression braking. Then I change the oil. Then get on it hard for about 150 miles. Then I change the oil and break-in period is over.
