Guess I posted this in the wrong section, but I'll cut and paste what I posted in the General Forum earlier this week....

NIRA was here at Marlyand Intl Raceway this past weekend. And HRC was out there as well. About them not going to the Shootout, I talked to the guy at their tent and from what he told me they didn't go b/c they arrived in Norwalk, OH way too early and decided to just head straight to Budds Creek, MD. (Didn't quite make sense, but okay)

They had a pretty nice setup out there with the tent, trailer and nice HRC items on display, not to mention the Turbo'd Eclipse!! BTW, I was told it broke an axle earlier during qualifying so I did not get to see it run on Sunday, but was able to click off an 11-sec pass before.

Len Ayala did run his turbo'd Neon though and holy smoke is that car wicked quick!!! Unfortunantely, he got paired up against Lisa Kubo in the first round of the finals. And, if I remember correctly, he ran a low 10-sec to Kubo's high 9-sec pass. He got the holeshot on her, but by the 660' mark she caught up and steadily pulled from there. It was pretty close at the top end though. He almost seemed to be charging harder at the top end and looked like, had there been more track, he would've passed her up.

Patrick

Boy, am I exhausted. Sorry for not posting sooner, but the last couple of weeks have been an absolute blur.

My sincere apologies for not showing at the Shootout. We ran into many delays prior to leaving. I had come down with acute sinusitis and had missed days of preparation while recuperating. We tried like hell to get both cars ready for both Shootout and NIRA. Had we left Len's car alone (the 9.80 second Stage V/N20 with manual trans setup) we would have made it to Norwalk. But we decided to advance to the new killer setup for this year: automatic transmission, eight fuel injectors, separate throttle bodies, 25G turbo, larger IC....basically, an entirely new combo.

As luck would have it, the Neon was not ready until Friday AM. We flat ran out of time to get to Norwalk, and had to proceed to the NIRA race.

We did not do too bad there, for a brand new experimental combo that never even turned a tire until that race. Out of 12 cars trying to qualify for the Quick Eight in Pro 4 Cylinder class, we qualified 6th with a 10.50 @ 136. Way more left, but that was all I could come up with in just three passes on the new stuff. Lisa Kubo ended our weekend in the first round. Next time!

Yes, the RS snapped an axle in qualifying. What a bitch, but it is the price of moving forward, as the new HD axles I am running are prototype and apparently not perfected yet. But this is how we and our sponsors find the bugs to work out and therefore improve the product. I did not want to risk stock axles any longer at the power levels the RS is starting to develop. Not only will I have improved axles at the next race, I'll have spares too!

That's about it. It was a thrash weekend all the way. How much thrash? I slept in a bed Wednesday night, and did not see another bed until Sunday night! But that's racing, and what seperates the winners from the whiners.

Special thanks to my little buddy Len Ayala (AKA Gilligan), my salesman Dan for working the crowd at Budd's Creek NIRA, Aaron and Lee for their ability to work hard with no sleep and still remain enthusiastic, Bammi for lotsa behind the scenes fabbin' and moral support as well as help at the track, and to Curt (who could not be there) for bringing the beer and smokes during the mad prep sessions. Couldn't do it without them!

Next: NIRA Maple Grove!

Just wanted to thank you for bailing out at the last minute after telling me and Chris that you would be there. I mean, hey...it's only money. Maybe you need a roommate for next years race? It sucks when people pull crap at the last minute especially when $$ is involved. You cost us 140 bux jerk.

hey now, he explained his reason. its understabdable, its sucks he wasnt there, i wasnt either.. and i woudl be pissed if i put out 140 bucks to see him race, but he was sick, and the car wasnt ready, cant blame that. if the car wasnt ready, it coulnt race anyways. btw- how much power is the RS making? just wondering. im sure you are pissed, but he has probably helped out the 420A crowd more than anyone else. i wish i could hear stories about the shootout from turbo 420A guys, but not enough showed.. i guess next year emoji by then all of the newer turbo guys should have their kinks worked out, and hopefully we can witness a 9sec pass in the RS!!

Why yes Stan, you should have!!! The weather absolutely sucked!!! It was unGodly hot, 90+ degree temps and high humidity. Plus the runs for me there were my first three ever.

Bill, when are you planning on running the RS around home? I'd love to come out and see you run.
