Hey guys... this one is a real mind boggler. Well i was just driving today and all of a sudden my car just shuts down. Now I also must tell you that I have a star stage 2 with a built engine. I also have an SAFC. It did this a couple of months ago on the side of the highway (didn't modify or change anything in a couple of days), just all of a sudden. So I thought it to be my TPS. My SAFC wasn't giving me any voltage or percentage on that and i knew the wiring and all that was good. So I changed it on the side of the highway and it still didn't work, but for some reason after a couple of tries of starting it up, it ran. It ran like crap, but it ran enough to get it home. Then the problem went away. Now it is back, and again I haven't modified or changed anything in while, it just does this all of a sudden. It is practically a brand new TPS (and if i took it out, put a flathead screwdriver in it, I get a voltage and a percentage). But when it is on the throttle body I am not getting a reading on my SAFC as to my TPS voltage or percentage. I didn't get a chance to pull codes with keydance or datalogger, but if I did it would tell me the TPS voltage too low. I can't for the life of me pinpoint this problem! I really need help on this one guys. Sorry for such a long post but I wanted to be thorough. Thanks alot!

The car is a 97 eclipse gs. The car starts then dies, and giving it throttle has no affect on it whatsoever. I couldn't check the codes yet because i am at work, but if they are anything like before it says the TPS voltage is too low, which doesn't help me because i can tell that by looking at my SAFC. I really am at a loss for words, and it seems to fix itself for a while, then do it again at some random time. I checked the wiring all the way to the ECU with an ohmmeter (sp) and everything checks out fine. It's really fucked up. Thanks for the responses so far guys, please keep any suggestions coming because i am out of them.

Well you replaced the TPS once, and when it is working you say the voltage is normal correct? I believe that sensor is 0-5 volts right.. if so check with the car off and see if it is sweeping on the volt meter properly. To me it sounds like a bad ground, most times it's fine but you hit a bump or something and it jars it loose. I would check all the wireing very closely, esp. anywhere you may have spliced in for the SAFC. The problem is either in your wireing or in your ECU one or the other, but it doesn't seem to be the TPS.. Also with it working out of the car but not in that leads me to the ground because the wireing harness will be at a different angle.
I edited to the wiki!

CHeck the egr tube. It melted some of my wires as well causing a similar problem. I had to finally replace my ecu. Also check your wiring to your afc, one wire off there and that will do it too.
