I ended up getting the mega squirt. We just finished the install at 10:45 tonight. OMG, I LOVE this system! Mega squirt 0wnZ IMO.

I have always had a gay idle, and never could get idle right. Always had too much or too little fuel. With a couple of adjustments, I had it idling almost like stock! Even with my crower cams. And mind you, I have never tuned a fuel management system, and this was my first time ever using mega squirt. So those of you who think it’s over your head, it’s really not. I still have to learn a lot about this system, but I already got the hang of it within half an hour.

THANKS TO LEE (MR. SLICK) for helping me all through out the process and pointing me where to go. THIS GUY ROCKS! He is there to help you every step of the way! He knows everything about MS I swear.

Anyways, ill stop ranting, I just wanted to post the install went on, for the most part, with out a hitch!

I love this system so much. We played with it all day...We got it running sooooooooooooo smooth...Sad thing is I started smoking ALOT out the exhaust...I thought maybe fuel related...trying to ignore what was obviously apparent. So at 10:54 tonight, I had the turbo off, to find all kinds of oil around the exhaust side of the turbo...not good, oh well, ill have it rebuilt tomorrow ...another 250$ down the drain...fuck

i really dont think anyone should choose PF or MS right now. nobody knows exactly how well the PF works and could be better than the MS. I think its too soon to judge. Also.. nobody is going to try both systems on their car so again.. its going to be hard to judge.

8 injectors? And the stock ecu running the primaries? Uhhh...MS is better...IMO

I'm glad you liked the Megasquirt... I told you that you wouldn't be disapointed with it...
Now get a wideband and you'll have so much more tuning ability... not that you don't have enough wiht the narrowband...

As far as which system is better... I'm not going to get into that in this thread... not yet anyway

New things coming to the Megasquirt world:
MS II - This will be a plug in expansion module for the current MS... it will give some new features, and bigger fuel tables. Should be coming "sometime" in the next 6 months...

UMS - This is a totally new standalone... it will be coming who knows when... It could have been here already if they deisgners of Ms hadn't started on the MS II side project...

Personally I doubt I'll be using either of these two systems... at least not for a while yet...
There's so much progress going on with the "Classic Megasquirt" right now that the MS II is almost not needed before it even arrived!
I'm working on some very special things with my Megasquirt right now... some of you guys know about it.. most don't.

I'll probably announce what I;ve been working on here tonight...
Let's just say what I'm testing will put the Megasquirt ahead of ANY of the standalones currently being used on the 2GNT/420A platform...

I'm still holding out to see which to go with. Someone with some serious knowlege should do a write up on each one. Obviously not the same person but we could get ideas about each if just one person with lots of experience could do a write up on the install, tuning process, and dyno results afterwards. That would be nice.

Did you get the crank signal fully decoded and working with the MS? I know it's getting close.

I may switch from the DFI to a MS on my 420A DSM when the ignition can be programmed using the stock crank signal. I thought I heard somewhere that max boost read by the MS map sensor is about 22 PSI. I run upwards of 28 PSI, is there support for this?

Also, I use my DFI for nitrous and fan control. How well can the megasquirt perform these tasks?

To MrSlick and xtrickeclipse. How much $$ did everything come out to and what fuel regulator did you use. I'm also planning on upgrading my fuel system. I was going with the PF but every I'm hearing with the MS, just makes me lean towards that.

I would definitely have gone MS if it was as developed and spelled out to the degree that MrSlick has it at this point.

The tuning abilities with this setup along with the features and price make it a no brainer. I'll definitely go this way with the 240sx once the time comes.

I thin kthat the fabrication that is needed to install 4 more injectors more then offsets the wiring and fabrication of a megasquirt. I built an injector harness in no time flat for my standalone. Shit, most of the harness can be built outside of the car with minimal soldering skills, and then installed. A base map will get you started, and it isn't any harder to tune, really, then an sAFC.

The only question remains: What will YOU do with the extra holes in the manifold? REALLY BIG shot of nitrous?

Well I'm using the 8-Injector setup right now, and I'll be installing my Megasquirt as soon as it arrives and I build it. I'll offer up my opinions once it's in there.

Anyone want to buy my 8 Injector setup?

Ive read the site and somewhat undertand how the system works...But Im still confused.

What are the exact parts needed, how does this solve the issue of low fuel pressures at idle with larger injectors....basically... what is the 'step by step' of this setup?

I've read all the posts and the website....maybe I'm just slow...just seems confusing.

I think we realy need a VFAQ on this! (one of those Corbin" explain-it-alls)

While it's not that difficult, I can see more and more people going this way.

I'll be extremely interested with the UMS when that comes out, or any other version that will allow me to control timing. We're talking almost limitless boost(~30psi) once we get that controlled (with a boost reference).

once that is available as an option, I am most certainly going with the MS set-up. like I've said before, my boss is running that system in his BMW, and I know it is a super sweet set-up

You won't use a SFMU w/ it, you'll use the aeromotive or any other 1:1 fpr. B/c its a stand alone you'll have total control of the injector duty cycles. Neat stuff.

Thats what I did to, got one off e-bay for like 15 bucks with fuel rail and injectors. I ended up running a 3 wire connector to the harness, one wire 12volt, one to inj. 1 and 3, and the third to inj. 2 and 4. If this sounds wrong please say so but it sounded good to me
