Okay I bought a built shortblock from a guy off of 2gnt here and he is telling me this:

3 of the pistons clearance is fine bewteen the cylindar wall and the piston.
The other one has a TOTAL clearance of .030 from side to side he says, thats how he get the total(meaning that each side has a clearance of .015 he says).

Is this fucking normal is or is suptin fucked up here!?

what the hell would cause only one piston to do this????

the cylindar walls are bored out .020 by the way.

is this okay and normal or what, he said that forged pistons have a tendency to expand.

JE specs are .004 piston to sidewl clearance total. meaning .002 on each side of the piston.

something is seriously fucked up then since he says total clearance is .030 from side to side.

what the fuck would cause this? lol.

poor machining or he was told to get a different piston for that cylider only. I dont know any machine shop that would do that though. I would pull the pistons and remeasure everything. He might just be full of it.

are you sure he said 0.030 and not 0.003. that extra 0 makes a big difference.

even if its .003 he will still need to correct it. Good thing is .003 is repairable without replacing the pistons.

JE spec if thats what you have for pistons needs to by .0038-.0040

Ya I am positive he said .030 cuz when he said that I about shit my pants. He said that the machine shop who looked at it said that its fine because that clearance is from side to side. Either he or the shop is crazy. No, all the pistons are .020, they are all the same.

he says it ran fine when it was in his car though before he pulled it.

Standard "Overbore" is 3.444" -> 3.464" = .020" overbore
... that's .010" of material removed from the cylinder all the way around.

Standard "Piston to Bore clearance" is .0038-.0040"
... that's about .0020" of a gap between piston and cylinder wall all the way around, after it's been overbored correctly.
