Been a little too busy to post lately. Anyhow, I got into an accident the other day (not my fault!) and rather than fix the body work, I'm gonna do some motor work. I was looking at the Howell and FTY built shortblocks. I'm just looking for some opinions on the quality of these products. Also, how involved is the process of dropping in a new block? What special tools are needed? How long did it take? I've had the head off before, but never had the engine out. Sounds like fun to me.
I plan to get a shortblock, fmic, and some bigger fuel injectors. I like the sound of that portfueler thing but no way in hell can I afford another thousand dollars in fuel mods. Probably plan to run 12-15 psi daily. Suggestions? I'll have the money by Monday of next week, so I'll be ordering very soon. Thanks guys.

You've already done 90% of the work. It'll be fun.

Currently the search will probably turn up mixed opinions on both. Go for cost or reputation, your call. Both build excellent motors.

Thank you Dino. Hopefully my sputtering problem is a result of fux0red internals. I still think I might have a bent valve or something so I'm gonna pull the whole damn motor out while I'm waiting for the new one and have a mechanic look at the head. I heard VT isn't building 420A's anymore. Is that accurate? FTY and VT are affiliated too, right? Hopefully FTY is still building, because that was my first choice (heard lots of good things about those CP pistons).

Actually they told me today they will only be working on Ford Modular stuff for the next couple months. But it's worth giving them a call and asking. I couldn't be happier with the 420a they built for me.

Yeah I did do a compression test a few weeks ago. I got 180, 140, 180, 180 (+- 3 psi).
Not good stuff.
