How does a 300ZX TT intercooler compare to a Starion? It's a 13 row intercooler. (Damn stupid JPS NETs ftp is being a bitch right now so I can't upload the picture. )
ANyway it's two intercoolers right now . It's 6.25" tall, 7" in length. 2.25" thick
I'm going to have a shop weld the two together to make it 14 inches long. How does this compare to all your guyz intercoolers? Will this be adequate, will I get pressure loss? I'm planning to install a water squirter also. I'm thinking that maybe I want to buy a third 300ZX intercooler from somewhere and have 3 cores welded together to form a 21" length, but that might be a little over kill. RIght now it looks as if it's a 1/4 less than the size of a starion.
The piping sizes are 2" also, I measure my piping size and their 2" so I'm guessing this won't be a problem. Any suggestions? Where can I get cutom made piping, a muffler shop? NEbody know a place I could have the cores welded together?

I might be missing something, but correct me if I'm wrong. You're talking about welding two cores together, correct? So each tube/fin would have to be welded together... 13 rows... round or flattened-out tubes... I don't see how it's possible. It would look hideous, unless all welds were ground down and sanded etc. I have a 2g intercooler if you want it, cheap!

Damn I wish I had a picture, there are plastic end tanks connected on each side an there are these metel brackets that are holding the endtanks in place I figure if I have the bracked welded together it'll work, there will be a little gap between them but it should work. If I did it vertically the intercooler wouldn't catch as much air.
Well I'll check at some machine shops and ask them if it can be done.

Dont worry. actaully welding to cores together is nothing new or unual especially two 300zx cores. Dont know how it performs but do know its been done on DSMs before. Usually upgraded 300zx cores are used. Welding two together acually make a 26 row intercooler which is the proper way to make a intercooler larger (more rows going verticle as opposed to longer rows going horizonal).

Hmm so will I get pressure loss if I make em all go horizontal? I would love to get them all vertical but it looks like it'd cost more, I also want to use dem plastic end tanks that came with it, I can only use two of them anyway, the other two point towards the engine. It'd be a lot cheaper if I could do it horzontally... I don't plan on running that much boost like 7 maybe so is two cores good enough or will 3 be better? I had a couple guyz email me about their intercoolers already.
Fugk one of them said that it costs 2000 bucks retail for the two ics! That's pretty ridiculous when I could get a big ass star ic for 800 with the pipes.
Cool yeah I saw that webpage already. Wish I could find a couple saabs at the junkyard.

Too bad I cant show you a picture of how its done. If you have the december 2000 issue of Turbo mag they have a GSX with two 300zx cores welded together the right way. New end tanks that run across the top and bottom of both need to be used. If you weld them with the rows/tubes horizontally how do you plan on isolating/connecting the indivudual rows? You'd have to weld each row of the intercoolers together internally (and impossible). With the rows running vertically is the only way it can be done.

This is what I was saying. It sounded like he meant running horizontal to begin with, and it would be damn near impossible to weld each tube end to end. The link Fast420a gave is definitely the right way to do it, and it will still be a lot cheaper than buying a new FMIC outright. Good luck.
