guys, i called VT engines and howell automotive today to decide where i want to order my motor from. apparently VT is considering not building 420As anymore so my decision is pretty much made for me. so i called howell and will be ordering a short block from them tomorrow.
i need to know ASAP what the advantages of the 2.2L are compared to the 2.0L. obviously i'm aware of the fact that is 200cc bigger and will make more power, what i'm really curious about is whether or not it's worth the additional $500? the 2.2L doesn't require the modifications that the 2.4L swap does so it's a direct bolt in, so as far as i can tell i just need to determine whether or not it's worth the cost. someone who knows enough about it please reply, i have to order it tomorrow morning or my shop is making me tow the car back to the house because it's been sitting there for over a month. thanks
EDIT: found a few posts in the archives about this so i'll look through them. if anyone has anything else to add please do because i need an answer within 12 hours...that being the only reason i don't have time to search through the archives extensively before asking

I cant say anything on Howell, but VT impressed me greatly by actually taking pictures of the engine rebuild process using the disposable cameras I sent. They are VERY good at what they do and do a DAMN good job.
Go with VT and get the 2.0 IMO
I'm workin on it.... one thing after a f@#$ing nother!

2.2 all the way. fuck the 2.0 in its 1997cc ass, imo.
personally i went 2.4 bored the fuck out to 2.5, reason being (in my honest opinion)...the more cc's and low end torque the better (without sacrificing redline capability)
advantages of the 2.2:
-direct drop in -obviously more low-end torque -rev it to 9K rpm all day long -less boost to make the same hp and torque as a 2.0
the only real disadvantage is its expensive as hell!

Well it's really up to you Cyan as far as what you would like to do. As you will see in the old posts it is 10% more displacement which means every mod on your car will become 10% stronger give or take. Now you do loose about 2% from the compression drop for the 8.8 pistons IIRC. So net your gaining about 8% better performance. But logic will tell you it will also spool the turbo faster and what not. Now it sounds to me like you just want to make respectable power, you are not trying to squeeze out every last ounce of HP. So to that I would say a 2.0L would suit you just fine. However I see that you spare no expence with your car and that the uniqueness of it is important for you, so to that I say you may want to go 2.2L just to have a "stroker" motor in it since money is not an issue. So the bottom line is, Is it worth the extra money to you for the benefit? I hope this has helped at least a little bit
I edited to the wiki!

The bottom line is coin... If the extra cash isn't a deal for you, just go 2.2l and be done. I have been down both roads. I originally did the run o' the mill 2.0l/8.8:1 combo. This is good, and all was great for a while but boosting at 21psi to only make 321hp/277tq left me empty inside after all the work and supporting mods. However just driving around now on a basic tune, 2.2l/9.5:1 combo, the car feels insane at only 16psi. Keep in mind displacement and c/r all play factors in what you get in the long run... but there is actually a noticable difference through the entire rev range.
