#75250, "What do you know about that TURBO install...new pics!!!"

Hello everyone, just thought i'd share a few pics of my turbo install...after many cut fingers and cuss words here are just a few of the pics, i am in the process of welding the manifold and piping, also anyone in the south florida area with a 1g BOV please PM asap. The intercooler is from a turbo volvo approx 80$ fits pretty good but hanges down quite low, 18" rims help though. I went with a 14b turbo for 20$ that i rebuilt myself and welded the cracked exhaust housing very poorly with an arc welder. Oil cooler from a toyota camry which should help to keep the turbo running cool. Since i am a cheap college kid i used all 1/4" rubber fuel tubbing for oil/water with 1/4 tube connecters with clamps and some jb weld, i like to keep it simple cheap and of course ghetto but what can you say for putting a turbo on for less than 500$? Also is the 14b wastegate set at 10psi on default?

I would keep an eye on that JB weld, if it gets too hot it starts just burning off, just keep an eye on it.

man if i were you, i'd remove that JB weld... with all the vibrations and heat that turbo makes, it won't last for shit. and you wouldn't want that oil return line to be leaking. you're better off with just teflon paste or high temp silicone gasket maker on them threads. another thing that IC is definitely going to scrape, my IC is taller than yours and it's barely touching the floor, i'm sure yours will as well, you have to bring it up some. look at mine for example this is 13.5"H, 15.5"L 2.5D:

Ft. lauderdale, the JB weld holds up to 500F whith a tensile strength of 3200psi (google jb weld) with a turbo water/oil cooled it should not run that hot near the core. Anyways i had everything bolted on and guess what? I connect the radiator hose and the plastic connecter on the radiator cracks out...err change your radiator every ten years. I'll update you with pics, anyone have a missing link fs?

yeah it's big but you know what!? it's the best upgrade i ever did, it gave me a tremendous difference from the STAR IC to this NPR IC. just by my EGT readings i can read the difference, so far, 18psi daily full boost and 1450*F. so it's real efficient. my only problem right now is my slipping clutch that i'm trying to make free time to install, but looks like 25psi coming soon. oh BTW i no longer have that front bumper i was just testing it out but i didn't like it. now i have the 97+ bumper. either way you can see it's real tall but i managed to make it fit with no problems.

That's great and all that your EGTs are lower, I mean, really swell. But what about IAT, pressure drop, lag? Also, do you really think the top of it is being used at all? Go for a hard run and feel the bottom and top of your IC.

Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

but hows your power band now that you've got to fill this massive intercooler every time you go to spool up? what turbocharger? t3/t4e?

must at least flow a lot better than the tiny star fmic.

well turbo response had improved,it spools a little quicker than it used to, just because it's big doesn't mean i'm gonna get more lag or great pressure drop. it depends on your mods, how much you boost you're running, what type of turbo you have, how efficient the IC is and also the way you route your IC piping. i have routed in a way that it doesn't increase pressure drop. i try to avoid many 90* bends on the hot side but i kept the STAR cold side piping. i did do a hard boosted run check and i was amazed of how well it cools down. the hot side is HOT and the cold side is slightly warm so it's doing it's job. it helps greatly mainly 'cause there's more cooling area on that core than most IC's i've seen that are like 7~9" high and 20" wide. it also has 21 extrude tube channels which helps cool the air at a greater volume. i have a t3/t4e so it's prefect for me. this is the IC i will ever need.

that jbweld will last about 5 min. Your turbo will be around 1200degrees. I had a shop that was checking out some things clock it with a gun, when I pulled in it was 1200, and didnt drop very fast.

Listen to darkreality, hes been around longer then your mom. what he says is golden.
