Don't say you "got" the car until you actually have it, I've found that out from experience Anyway, N/T means non-turbo, right? A GSX is all wheel drive and turbo charged with the factory components.

Everyone's always gotta keep up with the Jones's, huh? How about fixing up your car to suit your needs, not just for the soul reason of street racing a friend thats giving you a hard tiime.... I'd start out by tuning the car good, new oil, oil filter, plugs, wires, flush the cooling system, etc... You'll never know when the last time someone did all that was... then after you have it tuned up good, then start with a less restrictive exhaust system and a intake system. Then if you want to get a little more serious and upgrade the intercooler and turbo, and get a boost controller and upgraded the fuel system, that'd be a good direction to start moving towards.

Yeah, thats correct as far as I know, but you may want to check it out and make sure he doesnt have upgraded turbos or a boost controller or anything...

check out dsmtalk.com or dsm.org... they both have good general info about the eclipse as well as specific info about the 4G63 motor... this site (2gnt.com) is specific for the 420A engine... not much support on the others for us, so Juan created this one...
They should be able to steer you in the right direction as far as beginning mods as well as "free" mods...
Take the advice hear and make sure you get a thorough tune up... then the intake, exhaust, and "real" boost gauge. Do the fuel pump rewire mod and get a Joe P. MBC. crank the boost up and see of you can hang from there...

well youve either got a GSX or an N/T, you cant have both cause the GSX is turbo. did you mean AT as in automatic transmission? if you bought (in process) an automatic GSX you should be shot. hehe,jk, but which is it, bill cant give you advice unless he knows if you have a GSX or a GS

LAST EDITED ON 16-Jul-01 AT 08:50 AM (PST)
if you read my sig i am a member of this site because right now i have a 1997 Eagle Talon Esi which is powered by a beautiful 420A Chrysler built engine...that is a non turbo. I am signing papers as we speak on a 1997 Eclipse GSX which is AWD and powered by a 4G63. I know there isnt much support on the 4G63 engine but i do know that there is plenty of knowledge about turbo's and such on this board. I mean if there wasn't such knowledge then we wouldnt have so many boosted n/t's out there and we wouldnt have an 11 second RS. The GSX is a 5spd so dont shoot me. he(friend with rx-7) is totally unmoddified. and as far as doing with the car what suits me....that is boosting the hell outta it to blast some shit talkers!!! lol well not really boostin that much but i do want to reach maybe 12's in it? i know it is possible but i know the lower the number the higher the cost! I want to get a good list of safe and good mods to do without spending like 5k. if i spend that much i would concentrate on a new turbo, engine rebuild, all kinds of electronic shit, and of course all new IC piping. well i think that sums it up. Thanks for any help that anyone can give me. Stan and a few others have already done a good job giving suggestions but i guess i wanted some directly from Bill himself. i was thinking something like the hrc or greddy FMIC but i like hrc's new design for more airflow to the radiator!!! nice job guys! anyways all new upgraded IC piping maybe ?? 3" ??? and either the hrc k&n setup or the injen intake setup? as far as electronics and things to monitor and up boost i have no clue. i really need a good book on turbo's and such. i can do most of the mechanic stuff because i am not a dumbass...but as far as the specifics of fine tuning i have not a clue. thanks again for any help...i guess a good book would be the best mod for now!hehehe

Well the price list to get you into 12s....(estimates)
MBC- $50 Big 16G- $1100 catback- ~500+ downpipe- ~200ish test pipe- $50 fuel pump ~100 FMIC- ~1000 clutch- ~$300+ injectors- ~350 SAFC- 300 intake- ~200 (or K&N filter for cheap) upgraded IC pipes- ~250ish? random gauges- 200+
Total: $4600
That list got my friend's 97 TSi AWD to 13.8 with a 2.0 60' All you have to do is drop another second off that good luck. oh, might want to count shipping too.
The good part is the 4G63 can handle 400 horses on stock internals, so you don't need to worry about that.
