Hey fellow 2gnt'ers! I have about 1000.00 saved up right now. My question is how should i go about turboing? I like hahn racecraft. Especially their stage 2. But that is A LOT of money, and i love star as well (stage 2) but i heard they dont make them anymore. My buddy suggested buying piece by piece to create a stage 2. But I am not sure anymore. AHHHH it's driving my nuts. If anyone is selling a stage 2 turbo that is in great shape or something promising for a fair price, let me know. Or someone let me know how i should approach this matter.

I'm not sure what to do. I know i will probably have to save up more money which isnt a problem, just gonna take time like anything else. I dont need the Turbo RIGHT NOW or anything, but although it would be nice. hehe! But i can keep saving up. I just thought i would ask all of you guys because i know i can get some honest responses and opinions! Thanks a lot guys!
P.S. By the way, I have a 420a motor with cam gears, NGK spark plugs, and 10.3 mm OBX wires.

In my opinion, keep saving money until you get around 2500 or so. Until then read as much as you can about turboing your car, and turbo cars in general. Buy a copy of Maximum Boost and read it a few times, browse through the archives here, read new posts in the turbo section. By the time you get the money together, you should know enough about it to make your own decision.
Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

Buy the stage 1 from HRC or Star and upgrade its parts. (IE, turbo, BOV, intercooloer) THEN when you feel the boost at 7psi, upgrade your internals and boost to 20psi. The only reason why I went with Star was because HRC requires a full turbo kit to be paid with a money order, NOT a credit card. If I could have used my credit card to pay, I would have bought from them, their loss tho. I'm happy with the Star kit, the directions sucked ass, but happy with the end result.

Save more than $1000! And be sure you have backup cash incase you accidentally blow your motor. Also keep in mind you'll need a few hundred after you buy a kit for stuff like the missing link, EGT gauge, electric FP gauge, a/f gauge, etc. If you go with the HRC kit you'll probably also want a new 155lph fuel pump, unless you like hearing a high pitched whine all the time.

No need...we are now reserving the inline pumps only for hi HP applications...all Stage I and II kits now come with an in-tank pump upgrade. Stage II's now come with larger injectors as well!

I was about to post the same topic until I saw this one.
Anyway, What about internals? Is it nessisary to lower the compression if I want to boost more than 10psi? I don't wanna blow any headgaskets.
I'm thinking shorter rods. Since I have to replace one of them anyway due to my spun rod bearing. Or just stay with stock rods and use a thicker headgasket.

Go with Hahn, hands down. Save a tad more money and buy a Stage1 kit, then buy an intercooler and piping - voretech SFMU - and missing link elsewhere. Make sure you have an EGT and boost gauge - electric fuel pressure gauge if you can afford it. Buy larger injectors - I recommend 315cc or 440's with a SAFC to help manage,
Don't run more than 7 psi on stock internals.
If you feel the need for more than 7 psi, build your engine by purchasing beefier rods and stronger pistons and boost upwards of 20psi. Something like 8.8:1 Compression JE pistons and Eagle or Crower rods would work. Stock pistons fail at most anything higher than 8 psi of boost, and stock rods fail at about 14psi or so... (That is debatable but this is my opinion). You'd also need a better clutch to support the added power... then your golden.

I have 25,000 Turbo miles on stock internals boosting between 5 and 7 psi... not a sigle problem.
