#74119, "SFMU setup problems?"

I have 42lb injectors, in-tank and inline fuel pump, S-FMU with 2.72 disk and dark spring. I set it up just like the sfmu instructions say and when i turn the screw on top of the lid it will go up from 23, but it will not go down. I am trying to get it to 20psi idle pressure just so i know i can adjust it that low but it will not let me go lower no matter how much i adjust the screw. Also, when i turn the key to on, but not crank it up, my fuel pressure gauge goes crazy and the needle wiggles alot, should i be worried about that. Do i need to change my fuel filter or is it alright. Thanks in advance.

change your spring for one, go the the softer spring, you will be able to go to 20 easily. as for your on priming pressure not sure, poss gauge issue, could be a lot of things. exactly how is the sfmu setup....plumbing ect.

Do you use a mechanical or electrical gauge? When you turn the key to on the pumps should "prime" for a second or so,then shut off until you turn the key to "start". Thats normal and should happen. When its priming, it will prob build pressure, so your gauge is just reading that pressure most likely. And be sure you wired your fuel pumps with a heavier gauge wire using a relay and wired from the battery. The stock wiring wont handle the extra load of an inline and intake pump very well..

the vortech instructions statethe spring that comes installed will adjust from 5-40psi and the dark hard spring will adjust to 50-60 static pressure. I tried using the silver on mine and the highest it would go is 39psi. i had to install the dark spring for 50psi

look at your instructions from yours

well when i come down there by you i can install yours and prove it.

I know everyone else has installed the dark to go to 20psi but that is because the adjustment spring is relaxed on the spring.

well when i installed it the adjustment screw was all the way out. and it was hardley reading on my fp gauge. i know the gauge is good, it a snap on and hasnt been used but a few times and no never dropped it emoji. I had to crank it all the way down to get 39~40 psi out of it.

unless i have a screwed spring, not sure why its different

the reason he can't get it down past 2opsi is probably because he is still using the stock return line back to the tank, it happened to me so i switched over to a bigger return line the preassure dropped all the way down too 8psi

Thanks for all the advice. I will check both springs. I have a relay for the inline pup, so they are working great. I have a stainless steel braided return line and it is bigger than stock, so that was done when i installed the fuel systme setup months ago. I will try some more things today so i will post again. Thanks and i will try the sofetr spring just to check it out.

Only 95's will have a "stock return line" though. 96+'s will use some aftermarket variation, unless you have the vacuum line running to the rear. In that case, I guess you would have a stock return line, albeit short as heck.
