I did a search for where to purchase megasquirt and didn't yeild any results. Can someone tell me a little bit about their experience with Megasquirt.. What's the difficulty level on how to tune it... I spoke with a local shop here "Phantom Motorsports" and they told me that the emanage is just trash... He also mentioned an other ECU called MAP-ECU... anyone heard of it??

eBay. There's a guy from Canada that's selling them on eBay. He's very reputable and does good work.

>>Can someone tell me a little bit about their experience with >>Megasquirt.. What's the difficulty level on how to tune it...

High difficulty for the average joe. You must have firm grasp on EFI and the 420A combustion. I'll be using one on the GSX and I'm using an Accel DFI gen 6 on the GS. I still like the DFI gen 7 the best... I may be converting to gen 7 soon.

>>I spoke with a local shop here "Phantom Motorsports" and they
>>told me that the emanage is just trash...

They told you correct.

>>He also mentioned an other ECU called MAP-ECU... anyone heard
>>of it??

Nope.

Out of curiousity why would you use megasquirt over DSM link? I have looked at Megasquirt and am about ready to order the kits for construction but if i have a 4g i would go DSMlink....

It's more like half a standalone, unless you do the EDIS setup as well, then it's doing spark and fuel making it essentially a standalone engine mangement system.

full standalone. the best thing about megasquirt is being able to control a distributorless spark. this is the only thing that hindered a full standalone setup on a 420a but slick is working on EDIS for us, so we'll be in 110% control of fuel and spark. blows dfi out of the water imo, dfi cant control spark...just fuel. same with the other standalones on a 420a and they're not nearly as cheap as a megasquirt setup is.

DFI sure as shit can control spark. The Gen 6 can't do it as well as a Megasquirt, but the Gen 7 does it far and away better...

A friend and I have "cracked the nut" to this scenerio with the Gen 7,(the right)EDIS box, crank trigger wheel and all. For those going to the shoot-out, I should be running mine. In a neon we got the car to dyno 368whp/344tq using a 20G and 22psi... stay tuned for details in another post.

DFI sure as shit can control spark. The Gen 6 can't do it as well as a Megasquirt, but the Gen 7 does it far and away better...
ok well i stand corrected then. i didnt know that. but gen 7 is also like 1500$....doesnt it need a distrbutor anyway?

nope. EDIS box...

yes, but there are 2 different ones that can actually work. I'll elaborate in another discussion as soon as I have the dyno numbers and my Gs going as planned. (I have no intentions in hijacking this thread)

As far as ignition, how would MSD's DIS-2 hold up? Do you think it would be programmable enough to take care of the ignition in the interim between MS and MSII? Ithink I want the megasquirt, the only hard stuff about it sounds fun, but I want to control ignition and dont want to wait around for MSII.

yeah what exactly do I have to order, I wanna order 2 kits one for my eclipse and one for my Z. like at the website what kits do you need to order. I know there's the simultator thing you need to test em, then there's the kit, but it sez you need some other small parts in another kit. What kits and parts do you need to order to finish assembling it?

so with this I wouldn't need a sfmu also?

Guys... the MS is a standalone digital fuel injection ECU, just like the DFI. You need to know a LOT about this shit before you jump into it blindly. I'd just hate to see a bunch of guys trying to install a MS and can't get there engine running right. Read everything at http://www.megasquirt.info download and read the product manual and all your questions will be answered.

Ok, here's the deal.
To run a Megasquirt on a 2GNT you need:

Megasuirt ECU
1:1 Fuel Pressur Regulator plus return fuel line.
Injectors (Size depends on power output)
GM Coolant Temp Sensor
GM Air Intake Temp Sensor
1 x Relay
Misc Wiring
Laptop for tuning
Stock Idle Air Control motor handles IAC, so you don't need anything for that.

That's pretty much it. The Stimulator is just for testing the Megasquirt when it's on the bench.
If anyone wants to buy a complete unit I sell pre-assembled Megasquirts for $250 + $10 shipping. If interested hit me up.

As standard the Megasquirt controls just the fuel system. But as pointed out it can be modified to run the ignition system also using a Ford EDIS-4 ignition module.

Also, don't try using something like the Megasquirt if you don't know how to tune an engine or if you don't know why certain things are needed... You have to have some brains to use a standalone fuel injection control system. If anyone has any questions try to post them on the board here to keep the info in the public domain.

Read up... you do not need the relay board on a 2gnt!
All you need is one relay...

So no it does not come with a relay board.
And that is a fair price for an assembled MS.
Look on ebay once... emoji

And mine come with support from me... yay.
But enough of that... now I'm sounding like a salesman...lol

curious here; i have an 034efi and also a sfmu. also a dfi 6 but i dont have time to try to install that now. would a MS work with these applications, because it sounds like it has more options than the dated dfi 6; unsure of my future plans..

also interesting news on the dfi7 using that ford unit. I wish i knew more about that so I can make these idiots at a local tuning shop that installs dfi's who swore to me that a dfi 7 needs a distribuotr to run. didnt wanna continue argue with them so i gave up.

As with any of the systems you just mentioned, installation is the easy part. Tuning is the tedious part. Right now there isn't much out there when it comes to MegaSquirt or DFI g7 on a 2GNT. I think you should stick with the 034 or DFI g6.

Also- I don't know why everyone wants to fuck with the ignition. Many of us (actually, everyone I can think of) between 400-500 whp use the stock ignition system with a CD box. Hell, most of you wouldn't know where the hell to start when programming ignition advance tables. More is not always better.

Why would you ever want to run the 034 with the DFI 6? The DFI can control as large of injectors as you could ever want, by itself. I'm running 720cc peak and hold injectors right now with the DFI and have all the fuel I need. I don't think your mechanics are idiots for refusing to install both. I think it's the worst idea for fuel management I've ever heard.

Tell me... if you have a DFI, what do you need 8 more injectors for?

I'm not sure I'm going to keep it; I wanted the benefit of 8 injectors for better drivability on the street; and also so I can get the car up and running for now without having to install and dyno tune the DFI which I dont have the time or $ for. I need to run minimum of 850cc total. Besides, now I know that tuning shop guys are dumb, they told me the DFI 7 also needs a distributor to run and the 6 needs the air temp sensor or it wont work at all. They dont even want to install the DFI 6 by itself.

We'll see. for now I'll run the 8 injector; perhaps later if I get more $, install the DFI 6 altogether by itself or maybe move on to a Haltech or the newer AEM.

>>I wanted the benefit of 8 injectors for better drivability on
>>the street

Fuel systems generally don't influence the drivability of the car unless it's improperly tuned, regardless of the setup.

>>and also so I can get the car up and running for now without
>>having to install and dyno tune the DFI which I dont have the time

A wideband logger will eliminate the necessity for a dyno, and only cost around $350. Just make sure you have a driver so you can sit in the passenger seat and tune. Allow a full weekend for tuning.

>>I need to run minimum of 850cc total.

Holy shit! Why do you need that much fuel? Seriously. Tell me your setup and maybe I can help you make some decisions regarding fuel supply.
