#73726, "Car problems after i put valve cover back on? (kinda long)"

Well, i was gonna swap out my valve cover for a polished one, but the spark plug holes didnt line up so i installed my stock one back on. I have all new gaskets since they were gonna be put on the polished valve cover. I didnt use the new ones for the stock valve cover b/c they didnt look bad. Now i start the car up and it idles almost like it use, but then i rev up and hell breaks loose. Revving to 2000 it will settle back down nicely, but just revving it up to 3000 and higher it sorta starts bogging and then idling up and down until it just shuts off. What the hell did i do wrong. I didnt touch anything with my fuel setup or anything else but valve cover. I do not have my FMIC on b/c i am waiting on a new one so my pipes are just hanging, but that shouldnt make my car idle crazy and shut off. Could it be my valve cover leaking air out due to not being sealed tightly, pvc valve. It starts and idles fine everytime started, but cannot rev b/c it will shut. Any suggestions on what to do. Thanks in advance.

make sure you connected everything, including vacum lines and wires, and make sure the cover was torqued down correctly.

I believe all the vacuum line are correct, i may have not torqued them down right, i am gonna take it back off and put the new gaskets on and them put it back on. I think one of the threads on the head is stripped so i think i may need to get it rethreaded b/c i dont think threadlocker will help much.

Well .... there's a lot of possibilities here. When you put a valve cover on it is VERY easy for the little ring gaskets that sit around the sparkplug wells to fall out. If one of them came out and is now tangled in a cam I'm guessing that would probably mess up your idle emoji Also, this is basic, but double check your coil pack and your spark plugs, it's easy to reverse something or not get a plug on all the way. Lastly, the Chiltons manual says to torque your valve cover bolts down to 3ftlbs. If your turbo, which I sounds like you are, I'd go higher. I torqued mine down to 10ftlbs, which is still not much at all, but if you have any air leaks that will def. mess up idle. Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Thanks, i aprreciate the help. I will check everything out. I will let you know how everything works out. I think it is something will air leaking b/c it idles fine when car is on, but when revving to 3000rpm, it just starts to shut off and sputter.

thats funny i removed my pvc valve and let any crankcase pressure be released into the air(same as leaky valve cover gasket) and my car idles great.

I have not had time to mess with it so i took it to a shop that knows my car and setup. It isnt anything with my head or timing so i am at least happy about that since i dont got money to throw away on stuff i just repaired months ago. Hopefully it will be out this week.
