#73625, "alternatives to 034 and megasquirt"

With all the talk about extra injector controllers lately, my interest has been peeked. Even though at my stage, extra injectors aren’t really necessary, I still like to learn. And being the responsible adult I am emoji I’m always looking for more cost effective ways of doing things. So I started googleing like a mad fool and this is what I came up with so far.

The first one I found would probably be my last choice:

http://www.sdsefi.com/eic.html

The reason I think would be my last choice is for one, it looks like ass…plane and simple. For another, it control over the extra injectors seems pretty linear to me. Only allowing you to adjust when it starts according to boost pressure and a knob to control how much. Pretty primitive IMO, even though the processor takes in account RPM. And finally it’s pricey as all get out. $349 for the controller and another $343 for the 4 injector kit. I would hope that includes injectors, but they don’t say if it does or not…and if it does they give no info on the size ect. of the injectors. So overall I would probably pass on this option. But it does offer ease of use and does not require a laptop to program. And I know for me that is a plus emoji. Also when I researched the product farther I found it is mentioned all over some Saturn boards…so take that for what it’s worth to you.

The next one looks very interesting to me.

http://www.cnk.co.za/Products/DIY_Products/programmable_eic.htm

But alas it’s still under development. I plan on emailing these people to see if any farther progress has been made. But in short this unit looks like it’s going to be much more refined, with adjustments per MAP pressure, and RPM at 500 RPM increments, via an on board LCD screen. Plus it looks like it’s going to look 10 times better than the SDS. When I email the company I will also inquire about pricing…but I assume it with be relatively pricey. But again considering that you won’t need a laptop I feel that this option is worth looking into more. Also the company has some other interesting little toys they are working on.

The third I found can be summed up with 3 letters D-I-Y!

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/perf/injectors-coldstart-eepc.html

Now I haven’t read everything these pages have to offer. From what I have gathered I believe that the finished product would be much like the SDS unit. But considering that you have to find and build every aspect of this EIC, that this would be much more cost effective unit. Plus you can make it look any way you want emoji. The thing that confuses me about this EIC is that they are calling for “cold start” injectors….apparently common in Europe. But they don’t go into any details about them, i.e. flow rate or if they are saturation or peak and hold injectors. More research on that matter needs to be done as far as I’m concerned. I mention this unit mostly because the site goes into good detail about what’s going on with out confusing or overwhelming me to fast…. something I struggle with at the megasquirt site. If anything the site is worth a look for learning purposes.

This is just what I dug up so far. So what are your guy’s thoughts? Please realize that I know that these are probably inferior to the 034 and megaquirt products. But what I would like to know if you think that they are viable alternatives. I think these EIC’s are at the least interesting and worth consideration…no sence in 2 company’s getting all our business IMO emoji.

EEEK i would stay away from BUYING systems using cold start injectors....why buy when you can make one really cheap like the Reliant had...a 2 stage self adjusting electrical safeguard (depending on o2 voltage it would open the injectors...if it went really lean it maxed out both...nice as a safeguard)

Still think we could develop something with a preset basemap + a 10% variance closed loop mode..tunned to the rich emoji

I've seen all of those before... but don't confuse the Megasquirt and 034efi too much... the 034efi is an Extra Injector Injector controller, and the Megasquirt is a total fuel injection control system...

034efi is just to control extra injectors, the Megasquirt can control just extra injectors, OR control all the injectors... 4 in our case...

can the 034EFI control 400cc & 450cc injectors both with the stock ecu and a SFMU?

the 034 eic only controls the second bank of injectors. The primary bank in the stock locations are controlled by your ecu. That is why its so streetable.

Why would you need 400 + 450cc injectors? stock plus 450 should be enough for the "average" user here.
