Title pretty much says it all but it's not the only thing thats been wrong with the car lately. First there is the filter. I popped the hood this weekend because I wanted to go track down my boost leak. BAM ... no filter. It had fallen off and was sitting pinched between the radiator fans and the IC pipping. Great ... who knows how long thats been like that. It was there last time I popped the hood like 1.5 weeks ago. So I go stick a flash light in the compressor inlet ... looks clean. Wonder how it free spins ... kinda sluggish ... crap. I'm not sure how well it should free spin but it didn't seems to spin too much from a good twirl. Three revolutions tops. There isn't any shaft play though. I dunno ... what do you guys think? I fabed up a better mount for the filter (had to get new filter, old one had the neck melted) so it's pretty sturdy on there though so was the last one. I did use a pipe connection this time from the housing to the filter.
Second, my freaking exhaust manifold stud bolts keep coming loose. I tighten them as much as I can but sure enough they will keep coming loose. 1 was completely missing. It's getting rather annoying to have that keep happening. (4g63 studs, FYI). Any ideas for that also?

You're fine. Running with no filter isn't going to cause huge damage to the turbo over a short amount of time.
How is it exactly that you can go 1.5 weeks without popping your hood, anyway?
As far as the studs... loctite. I've got some thread locker that'd do the trick Might also try some large lockwshers.

Or maybe you just need to stop and oogle the turbo more often.
There is such a thing as too busy. Not realizing your airfilter has fallen of because you never look under the hood is aweful close to that line

If you HAVE to pop your hood after every drive ... make your car more reliable! Good lord! Aside from the exhaust leak and the missing filter, the car ran reliably enough that I didn't need to mess with it and I didn't have time to either. And just for you guys I've left the hoop popped open for 3 days straight. Just to make up for lost time.

normally they come loose because of the vibration. i wouldnt reccommend loctite because its a PITA when you want to get them out later on down the road. i used anti-seize on the head side of the stud and lock washers and hardened nuts on the manifold side. they havent budged and i can still get them off whenever i want.
and how on earth could you go 10 days without popping your hood?

well I use lockwashers and studs on mine. Even with loctite they backed out when I was using bolts. As for the lock washers, I find that with the extreme heat and torque, they flatten out and become regular washers.
Can loctite hold up to that heat?
