ok, i'm really close to getting a hrc kit. i just have a few questions about the install before i try to atempt it on my own. do you need to do any welding? and i've read a little about how people are buying the stage1 kit and putting on their own FMIC (starrion i think people said). will that get me up to the 275 hp that the stage 2 is supposed to have straight from hrc? and if so does anyone have any install tips on that?. thanks again for all the help.

Well my friend and I just finished installing my FMIC straight from HRC. This is the first time we've done an IC installation, and it went fairly well. You need a lot of patience and time. Especially when doing a custom setup. I looked into getting the starion but decided that it would be best to go with the HRC to avoid upgrades in the future.
There is no welding with the HRC FMIC. There is a lot of modification needed to the bumper reinforcement, front facia, and splash guards to fit the piping. It may be different for the Starion, but since it is a smaller IC, I would think it would be less extra work overall.

so the starion isn't as powerful as the hrc one?..and also, is there any welding needed on the turbo kit itself?, or any other things i might need to anticipate before i get the kit.

Hey Jeff, I plan on ordering a hrc by the end of this year, i am still debating on getting the side mount, sleeper look or get the front mount? did u have the side mount before? how do you like your hrc front mount?... Also What did you have to do to custom fit the Hrc New front mount intercooler ? i know you have to modify the front bumper and reinforcement must be trimmed a bit, but how much work and is it hard to do? how is the cooling to the radiator for you? Also for any hrc guys, for the hrc downpipe you have to weld it onto the stock dp correct? any muffler shop can do this? anything else i should know before hand? Thanks Michael 99gs

The FMIC is awesome. I posted a bunch of thoughts on it already. Search for posts with the subject of "HRC FMIC Impressions" or something along those lines. I went straight from the stage 1 to the stage 2 with FMIC. I didn't want to worry about dealing with more upgrades later on, so no side mount for me.
There is a good 2-3 inches between the intercooler and the bumper reinforcement for air to get through. I have had zero problems with overheating, even in 110 degree weather. The radiator gets tons of air...the needle on the water temp. gauge is still where it always has been. The intercooler actually feels cool to the touch. Not just "not hot", but actually cool.
Installation was really easy. The only things that took so long were cutting the bumper and the reinforcement. Then getting two pipes under the fuse box together was a pain as well. It took about 10 hours to do with some breaks in between. The cutting and refitting of the bumper alone took the most time.
As for the welding...there is none needed. The downpipe that comes with the kit slides over the stock downpipe where you cut it, and is held in place by your average exhaust clamp.

Hey Dude, well for the hrc dp, later on you are able to weld it and add a flex pipe to that area also correct? so it will be a little more safe if so? and you could get this done at any muffler shop?.Michael 99gs
