would a leak anywhere before the turbo, even a small one, cause a great deal of lag? The car doesnt seem to be pulling that hard and when i really get into it it gets really loud. I turned the boost up some, but it was boosting a lil and then it would start to drop back down to 0. I thought it was a boost leak somewhere in the vac lines

Wouldn't suprise me. Make sure the manifold flange is flat on the mating surface.

Yes even leaks that might be "minor" rob you of a lot of power.

Remember its the HEAT doing the work, leaks rob you of a lot of that.

Check to see if any of your head-manifold bolts are loose. If they are tight make you sure they are tightened evenly, it's a good idea to switch to studs if you haven't already. You should also check the turbo to manifold bolts. If these are both fine, you might want to check your wastegate and see if it is opening prematurely.
