Today i woke up and drove my car home from a friends house and noticed the turbo sounded kind of choppy. I drove for about a half an hour (until i was out of amish country). I stopped the car and noticed that it was sounding really loud. My best guess is that theres a bolt loose to the exaust manifold but i honestly dont know. I continued driving home and it kept making the same noise, similar to an old v8, real loud and nasty sounding. I also noticed that the reading on my boost gauge would not go above 0psi. I dont have a pyrometer/egt gauge otherwise the problem would be obvious. Anyone have any idea? Right now im letting the car cool down so i can get to the exaust manny but until then can someone help me out please? Thanks.

I think you've figured it out. I'd expect it to be a loose exhaust connection or blown gasket. It could be at the manifold to head connection or the manifold to turbo connection. It could also be at the turbo to downpipe connection. The first two should have the worst symptoms. All of them will sound loud and throw off your O2 sensor output (causing poor fueling).
I usually start the car up cold and immediately start running my fingers along the likely places. You can usually feel the leaking air and shut the car off before it gets too hot.

well i figured out the gasket that connects the wastegate to the headers/exaust manifold is in half. Now the biggest problem is to figure out where the hell to get that. I cant even start the car i have no clue why...
That was mitifo's time, on a star kit, so no 16g; a t3/34 probably.
Anyway, no you can't just take apart the gasket and run without one. YOu will have even more leaks.

yeah I wasent sure if it would be aprpriate for this situation with the rtv but ...I love rtv..it fixed my shoe and my throttlebody so far...It's like the new duct tape.

yo, you have a star kit right? your exhaust manifold might have cracked. i blow my exhaust manifold gasket all the time and i can still spool. you might have cracked your manifold. that what im guessing.

It could very well be your manifold... my buddy has a turbocharged MX-3 and he cracked his manifold. It made a reall really bad noise, stopped boosting at all, and ran like junk. Your gasket is cracked in half? Maybe something shifted to break it. You might have another leak somewhere else too.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related. Step 1: Put down everything in your hands. Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it. Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
