I ran a 15.250 today at the track but believe that I can get a much better time with the Star stage 1 kit with the E-trim upgrade that I have. My reaction time was terrible. It was a 1.253. I know that I'm capable of breaking the 14 barrier but have problems with the launching. When I take off at around 4,000 rpm and let off the clutch, the car seems to lag a little before I shoot out hard. In other words, I would have to ride the clutch a little more to prevent it from lagging or bogging if you know what I mean in order to get the full potential out of it. Where do you guys launch your turbocharged 420A's at? Also, if I upgrade to a Stage 2 with the intercooler set-up, how do I turn up the boost from my wastegate? I have a 7 lb. spring running 5 psi so if I wanted more boost, do I have to get a bigger spring for my wastegate? I heard stories of people screwing around with the nut on the wastegate to adjust boost but also blew their engines too. Can anyone give me more details on adjusting boost pressure without a boost controller? Here's the information on my time slip. R/T=1.253, 60'=2.383, 330=6.452, 1/8=9.858, MPH=71.97, 1,000=12.782, 1/4=15.250 @ 91.01 mph

Like Jason said in the above post, your R/T doesn't indicate what your E/T or MPH will be in bracket racing; more importantly, it's your 60' time that determines what your E/T is--the lower the better. I absolutely suck at launching, that's why my 60' is a 2.44= 15.48 @ 91.65 mph. I certainly need more practice, but the track is so full all the time I only get in about two runs per week.
As for messing with the wastegate spring, I'd recommend just getting a manual boost controller that only costs under $80: Joe P, Hallman, FastForward, Road/Race Engineering.

yeah me too. good manual boost controllers only cost $40-60 (dont pay $100-130 there will be no difference if its a ball and spring design. anything else will perform worse. Joe P, Hallman, Extreme EBC ect all basically the same except for looks and some have knobs instead of an allen key). 4000rpm sounds a bit high to me on street tires. While I've never been to the track I'd be standing still launching that high (or burning my clutch up trying to feather it). Intercooler will help preventing the bogging off the line too, at least it did in my case.

Hey, both of you guys have a Starion frontmount i/c, right? I'm sure that it cools better than a sidemount, but how much boost pressure loss are you seeing? I want a frontmount, and I don't have $1200 to spend on one; I think I could get my hands on one for about $150. What do you guys think?

I just bought a Starion FMIC in really goood shape for $160 off E-BAY. No dents and no dings in it. And you can use your stage two side mount piping and just buy a couple more pieces of pipe with a couple connectors and there you have it. I am doing custom piping that Hurricane GS is going to weld for me. I can't wait to get that starion FMIC on there next week. And as far as pressure drop...I have heard anywhere from 1-2 psi with the starion FMIC. But that doesnt matter because with a simple twist of the Manual boost controller you are right back up to whatever PSI you want:D.

I think 1-1.5 psi pressure loss is pretty much standard for a ton of turbo people who use this IC.
Not bad, but not extroardinary. But for $150, I'd say it's pretty damn cost-effective for being able to boost 3-5 pounds of boost safely while at the same time gaining more horsepower. I saw in a recent SCC magazine, they compared the difference in an intercooled to non-intercooled setup, and they gained about 10-15 HP IIRC without even compensating more boost after the introduction of an IC. (In other words, boosting with an IC with a pound less boost gained about 10-15 horses)
I know they performed this test with one of those $1000 intercoolers, but a Starquest IC will still garner a good portion of those horses maybe with less efficiency.

As long as the exit side stays cold I will keep it. Doesn't look like I'll be replacing it anytime soon.

At 3psi I ran a 15.16 @ 92.56mph. Right now Im just running the factory exhaust and thats probably why running that much. Anyway, my 60ft for that run was 2.33 , 330ft 6.450, and 1/8 mile was 9.857. My best 60ft of the day was a 2.23, my 330ft was better in that run too, but I couldnt get it into third so my 1/8 slacked a little at 10.04. I know with a cooler day I could possibly brake into high 14's meaning 14.90's. What you should do to get a better launch is slip the clutch at about 3500rpms. That should get you some awsome 60fts which will better your time.
