#71627, "turbo question"

so on the 420a motor is it pretty much nesessary to build the motor with new rods/pistons if you wana do a successful turbo setup? I plan on buildin the motor either way tho. i no a guy at a machine shop that wants to install the rods/pistons, port and polish, bore it over, machine it and all that. should i go through with all of this?? im wonderin tho how many problems you can run into without building the motor and also once my motor is built is it worth it? is a boosted 420a the way to go for me ?

i know you guys would tell me to search, i have, but id like some opinions on what to do

thanks

if your going to stay under 8 lbs of boost, stock setup will hold for a while (some have blown quickly some have lasted for a long time with a stock engine)

if you want stage 2 or higher turbo set (you will) then get a rebuild with atleast pistons/rods. and yes the more money you spend the more work they will do to the engine, the better/longer it will last.

but you need to decide on your goals. if you want just a faster daily driver just get a hahn stage 2 kit and run 8lbs of boost or less and youll probably be fine for a while

build the motor and run more boost ... trust me, in the long it will be worth it, make sure to use a sweet headgasket too or you'll end up like me trying to change it your first time and not knowing what exactly to do, lol. i slapped on a stage 2 kit with the oem rods/pistons and that lasted me 3 weeks on 5psi. now i am waiting 4-8 weeks for howell to build me a complete long block. it sucks. take the time and do it right unlike i did man! good luck

ya i the best way to go is to build the motor, money wise i was gona bolt on a kit this summer on stock internals but now im gona wait and buy the internals and get it done this fall, then turbo in winter/spring. right now i just got a few bolt ons but its not enough. Ive dont quite a bit on the exterior with a body kit, Carbon fiber hood, rims, suspension, etc its now time for some forced induction.
but what else is there to do to the 420a for bolt ons other then exhaust, intake, plugs, wires, and that stuff? is there anythin else im missing until i boost it? also for turbo setup im gona change the exhaust piping to 2.5 with a high flow cat? or should i do different.
