Here's the only pic I have of mine. My BOV was pretty stiff too. I ended up taking it apart and cutting a little bit off the spring.

Yeah, with the spring cut the screw sits about in the middle. Hard enough that it doesn't leak under boost, but soft enough so I don't get compressor surge when I blowoff under full boost. I still get a little chattering on low boost though, like 5psi and under.

maybe my turbo blew from compressor surge then cuz i never adjusted the BOV when i drove for the week before it blew ... i could barely hear it and i know its loud as hell. how do i check to see where to set the spring correctly so i dont ruin another turbo? thanks, probs to you.

Yep, the backpressure from compressor surge can cause premature shaft play. (wow, that sounded sexual!) emoji

It's just a matter of setting it right, tight enough to hold boost, but loose enough so it releases fully. If you can't get it to release with one big "whoosh" take it apart and cut a little bit (half a coil) off the spring at a time and keep trying it til you get it right. I think I cut one full coil off mine and I run 15psi.

i am only running 8psi and yes that did sound funky, but hell, shit happens .... lol ... so how i check to make sure the BOV is set correctly ... should i just get under the hood and rev up thr throttle real high until it goes off ... should i put my hand in front of it to check for leaks or how exactly do i do this correctly ... maybe this is why the turbo did blow in the first place ... do u think that if it wasnt set right then thats why i only barely heard it and why i had a shit load of shaft play scratches on the intake side and bent fins?? more props to you, thanks so much, please continue helping me!

You're not going to be able to build full boost while stopped. Just drive it and listen. When it holds boost and makes the "whoosh" blowoff sound without the chatter of compressor surge, you'll be good to go.

does compressor surge sound like the compressor is smacking the walls almost, or a flapping noise almost?

also, when i get the new turbo next wednesday, should i not boost it for 500-1000 miles to break it in??? i never did that either with the one that blew, i floored it right when i pulled out of the driveway ... does it need to be taken lightly for 500-1000 miles and then i can boost up to 8psi all i want or what do i do?
