It works fine he's the origional owner..... his car is FAST.... Ive never been in a turbo car until his and I NEED TO HAVE IT....

TD04

yes, buy it... spools quickly but doesnt have much top end

$100 is good for a turbo even if its in pieces...

but check for excessive play/wear or whatever...

(more or less direct quote from coworker who owns an 02)

dont use the stock subi turbo...i use it for a paper weight actually. my friends 02 rex blew the oil seal so we replaced it with a VF34 ball bearing. NOW its fast. stock wrx's may feel pretty peppy but they're not that fast. it feels nice because its stock boost and its tuned well. the exhaust flange is actually in whats called IHI format, its like a triangle shaped flange. IHI is some japanese heavy industries company that makes the turbo. it would involve a LOT of custom work and besides, its a td04! SMALL turbo to say the least, but spool will come fast. itd be smarter just to go with a decent sized IHI turbo if you were going to do all the fabrication just for a teeny td04. besides, there are WAY better turbos out there!!

i'll take a few pics of the little guy as soon as i get some batteries in my camera that arent dead as all hell

The 04 we test drove didn't feel peppy or fast. Pika tears up WRX's stock for stock. emoji

well yea actually i take that back. 2 liter wrx's are actually engineered (stock) to feel like a normal NA car anywhere up to 4500rpm, then it behaves like a turbo car. they have SO much shit in the way of the turbo, its obviously not made for the greatest spool time.

srt-s hand it to wrx's stock emoji yup. its great

Its actually a '04 rex.... I think it would be a good start for $100 bucks.... Im making my own manifold for it, so it doesnt matter what turbo I use... I want boost so I think it will work fine for me..

you're going to have one hell of a time with it man, im serious. the way its set-up is what will make it the biggest pain in the ass. the flange has to point down for the oil drain to point down, also...you'd need to run coolant lines to it since its water cooled to, or just plug the holes.

its a small turbo dude, whats the point?

if you're making your own manifold...where are you getting the flange? might as well save up, buy a HRC 16g and manifold, you can make good power with it...and it bolts right up.

just my .02 but you're going to hate this turbo, it seriously doesnt do much in the higher rpm's, especially with our 7250 redline

edit: see the flange?

Ill make my own flange with a CNC router table.... It will take some time, but it will be mine, all custom.... I'll have to make room for the turbo and manifold with an aftermarket radiator, fans ....
Wouldnt I want a turbo that spools fast for the strip, and for stop light shit. I mean Im not trying to hit 200 mph in the quarter..... I want some get up and go , hit the gears type shit.... I mean this turbo stuff is relitively new to me, I can make it work... Im building a 509 cu. inch drag stang (bout 8.5 in the 1/4) with my Dad and have had to custom make almost everything on it so this cant be much more difficult.... except daily driven....!?

A guy i talk with at work has a subie and we have looked into many things for it....the flanges i have seen are quite different. inlet flange is rather large but the outlet is the issue for me....not triangular at all....more like a large oval sideways that has a partition in it. Custom flange yes and looks like a real pain in the ass to costum and trust me i have done plenty of fab work. looks more liek a recipe for an unfinished project all becasue you want to save 100....for 200 you can buy a fairly low mileage t-25 or 14b. and the flanges are somewhat compatible to upgrade later on.

doesnt seem our opinions matter, you will do what you want...why ask?
