#68775, "More pics :) 8 injector setup fabracation/install"

Here are some pics of my work on the 8 injector setup. I took a little different route as to mounting the second rail. I decided to put it on the upper mani, instead of the lower, to make it easier to install, and also to service down the road. The only drawback to this way, is that you must use a custom made fuel rail, as the stock fuel rail injector spacing is too wide to fit the runners on the upper mani. Install went great, and was glad to have it done! I fabbed up the rail about a month ago, and fabbed the intake several weeks ago. And let me tell you, the motor runs so much better with the stock injectors back in..and no more insane high fuel pressures..Ok on with the pics..

Here I am drilling the extruded aluminum fuel rail stock for the injectors..

This is the completed fuel rail with the injectors in it. I had some AN 6 fittings TIG welded on each end of the fuel rail later on..

Here I am drilling the intake manifold for the injector bosses..My drill press really came in handy with this project..

A test fit pic of the rail and injectors/bosses, before I epoxied the bosses in place..

The bosses are epoxied in place..gotta love JB weld.

Here you can see how the second rail will be setting on the upper intake..works out perfectly..

This is how I mounted the fuel rail to the intake. I made a bracket out of aluminum, and drilled/tapped the rail for 3 small allen head bolts, and then I drilled/tapped the intake plenum for 3 bolts to hold that down to the intake. I used teflon paste to be sure the bolt holes in the plenum were sealed tight with no leaks.

In the process of hooking up the intake to the motor, and trying to make room for all the new lines..Its a tight fit to get all the vac and fuel lines in there..but still plenty of room between the rail and the firewall..I had to take a chunk out of the cruise control throttle linkage adapter thingy, to clear the fuel line out of the rail..no big deal..

Its getting there...

Here I mounted the 034 EIC infront of the stock ECU..Perfect spot!

Here is the Aeromotive FPR. It can be hard to see, since it soo damn tiny! LOT more room for it now, instead of the SFMU. Its right there on the side of the shock tower..

A final finished pic of the engine bay..Now its tuning time emoji

I'm impressed and now you are tempting me to move in this direction instead of just using my 390cc injectors. I've got a few things to correct on my car first before I dive into this project - another oil leak (looks like rear main again - remember my VTCOMP story - this will be fixed Monday). Anyways, nice work! Does the setup get rid of the hesitation at partial throttle? I've noticed with my bigger injectors I do get some small hesitation when I am slowly accelerating and I am sure this has to do with the very low pressures we use to get the larger injectors to idle.

damn man i think me and you finished the install at the same time, i finished mine 2 days ago, i just haven't fired it up 'cause i have to wait on some timing parts, but clean install, heheh i mounted my EIC in the same place right behind the ECU. that's a cool spot right there. i think you should've place the injectors on the lower though cause the fuel flow is going to be a little restrictive making it's way from the upper plennum to the ports. but good job! damn i wish i can take some pics of mine...no digital camera emoji oh BTW what injectors are you using?

Actually, the longer path fuel has to take, should help air/fuel atomization, if anything. I'm using stock injects for primaries, and 30 lb secondaries..

constantly check your motor mounts man... if you break one (which happens alot one these damn things) your motor will move far enough backwards durning a hard launch to hit the intake mani on the firewall.. and because of where you mounted the secondary injectors.. that part will hit HARD.. possibly breaking off and spitting fuel all over you engine.. fire... not good.
be careful man.

I really doubt that my custom solid MM made out of 1/8" thick steel will ever break..I used hardened nuts and bolts also, so it should be just fine. I don't ever really want to launch this thing like a top fuel dragster anyway emoji

tell us when u get it tuned good.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

yeah, tell me about it..I've spent the past few days just trying to tune it well to 8-9 psi..tried 13, moved the scaler up and down, but still didn't run right..I do have an updated version of the software too...Instead of the "# of cylinders" peramter, and the "# of phases" peramter, I have "# of triggers per rev", and "# of trggers per injector". Right now they are both set at 2, and I don't think thats right. Javad gave me a link to the readme file for the descriptions of these perameters, but I still am not 100% sure what they mean. I'm thinking I need a 4/2 setting...Corbin, you have any insight to this??
Will changing the triggers per rev, from 2 to 4, give more fuel?? I'm thinking these new perameters just mean the same thing as the old ones really, but i could be wrong..

Triggers/rev more likely means the number of times they fire in batch mode when activated. In which case, 2/rev is enough, and 4/rev might be below the minimum open time of the injector. # of phases.. got me, post that part of the readme and i'll translate emoji

"# Triggers per Rev: Enter the # of injector triggers you’d like per crank revolution. If using a 4-window hall sender in a 4-cylinder application, then you would enter 4 because the cam rotates at half the rate of the crank. If using the 60-tooth wheel on the crankshaft, then 30. Typically, this # is equal to half the # of crank triggers or equal to the # of cylinders being used, depending on the trigger type.
# Triggers per Injector: Enter the # of triggers per each injector driver, typically use 1 to pulse the injector once on every trigger, 2 to pulse the injector every other trigger."

There, this is what is says. Basically, the new software is identical, except # of cylinders, was replaced with Triggers per rev, and # of phases was replaced with Triggers per injecter..I'm just tapped off of the Stock ECU tach signal, which I believe is one pulse per revolution of the crank, correct? This tells me I would need to have triggers per rev set at 4?

# Triggers per Injector: Enter the # of triggers per each injector driver, typically use 1 to pulse the injector once on every trigger, 2 to pulse the injector every other trigger."
There, this is what is says. Basically, the new software is identical, except # of cylinders, was replaced with Triggers per rev, and # of phases was replaced with Triggers per injecter..I'm just tapped off of the Stock ECU tach signal, which I believe is one pulse per revolution of the crank, correct? This tells me I would need to have triggers per rev set at 4?

Well, since the only signal you're sending is the tach signal, the EiC has no way to know when it should trigger an injector individually. I'd try 4/1 or 2/1 and see how it reacts.

Well, If i set the triggers per rev, at anything other than 2, the rpm would not be reading correctly on the software. So, 2 was the right one on that setting. I then changed the triggers per injector to 1, and that gave me A LOT more fuel. I was happy with that, and seems to work very well. Spent a few hours tonight with one of my friends out on the highway, and it is now tuned VERY well for 8-9 psi. Car feels really good. I am having to cut quite a bit of fuel for 0-5 psi, to get my STFT values looking decent, but vac to boost transition is flawless, and low boost/part throttle boost feels wonderful. I'm really liking this thing!

So it fires like my Gen 6... twice per rev, batch fire. Makes sense.

Yep, exactly. I was talking with matt_95tgs for a bit about it, and we both concluded that it prob would not matter if it only fired once in stead of twice, you would just have to run a higher scaler #. But I just decided to put it to 1, and that seemed to do the trick. It just seemed to act too funny when it was set to 2.
