#68598, "Copper Spray on Exhaust Manifold"

I saw someone mention using Copper Gasket Spray on an exhaust manifold for a turbo. I was wondering why you would do this. Is it just to keep it from looking all crappy and rusted or does it actually serve a purpose?

Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

To keep it from looking crappy and rusted. It's pretty much the only cheap way to make it look nice. No paint can hold up to the heat like copper gasket spray can. It sprays on copper...and burns off a nice gunmetal color.

I went to Advanced Auto Parts today looking for that shit, I went thru the paint section and didnt see it. I told them i was looking for Copper Tone? is that right called Copper tone? I couldnt find anything thru the paint section, but after wondered the other aisles picking up my first APC products (red air filter and mini air breather) I saw a can called Copper Tone! I thought I had found it, but it said it was an adhesive for gaskets spray. So i was like shit, this aint it. It aint a paint (as in color) I guess. I thought it would just be like some adhesive glue or something.

IS THAT WHAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO PICK UP? It said copper tone gasket adhesive spray.????

Im about to paint my new hahn manifold so what do i do? Just directly coat it once without any kind of prepping? then when dry give it another coat? then what like after 300 miles coat again? Think one can would cover the manifold and the turbine housing? THANKS

It's copper gasket spray for head gaskets. That shit is sticky as hell. Does it ever dry, or would I be putting it on sticky?

Lets just say this... I'm over 100whp and soon to cross 200whp. Thanx 2GNT! Now if I could only learn to prove it.

Its very damn sticky.... but after you spray it on...and it burns and changes color, it is no longer sticky. You dont need to prep just spray the manifold. It is not a paint, it is an adhesive 'gaket maker' -- but we use it as 'paint'. Yes you can spray it on your rusty ass manifold.

Napa version is called Copper-Spray-A-Gasket or something like that. I have used both the napa and schucks versions and both work great. It is not in the paint sections btw. Look for it in the gasket/exhaust section of the store.

i'd recommend it. its a nice way to "seal" the mani from the elements. it smells like hell when its burning off, start your car and let it idle for a few minutes and the stuff will start smoking off. hes right, it is sticky as hell. i put down newspaper when i was spraying my manifold and the paper stuck in a few parts, it sucked. lol. for the rust just take a light copper wire brush to it for a few minutes before you spray it, that stuff comes off w/o to much hassle. i also coated my turbine housing.

400whp or bust.

hmm, this might be something good for those cheap ass pacesetter headers that always burn the paint off. hell, if it can hold up to a turbo, then it will surely work on a NT header. how much did that stuff cost?

I just recoated mine 2 weekends ago. I took the turbo and manifold off cause I had to remove a broken manifold bolt.

I sprayed both the turbo and manifold while they were off. Installation while its tacky is not hard. Just exercise some xtra care. If you do it right, you should only have to make a minor touch-up to finish it off.

Why would you burn it off with a torch? And check the dates of the threads next time before bumping.

Fixed your horrible grammar for you.
Just wait till you put it on the car. It's a waste of time to do it before then. And yes dates do matter since it clutters up the forum with useless posts that bump otherwise current and ongoing threads down.
