#68273, "EIC tuners I need your advice/assistance"

For the last two years i've had on and off again problems that have allowed me to put limited miles on my beast. All is well now and i'm making some very nice power. I consistantly run 18-19 psi and am tuned for 1600. Here are a few of my quirks w/ the eic , and it may have to do w/ my settings. Thats why your here emoji

Transition from vac to boost is horrendous. Its like fuel cut in a 4g63. Car sputters and doesn't want to do anything. Very annoying when your trying not to get on it to much but decently accelerate. I'm on a big gas milage thing right now b/c of 2 dollars a gallon premium(damned opac, f them). So i'm normally shifting at around 3-3500 rpms. If i stay in it a little and start to hit 0 psi the a/f blink guage goes from pig rich to lean, then back again as i hit boost. I have to give it gas to get into boost to make a smooth transition. But say i am in to high of a gear for a turn, or just after a speed bump. Flooring the car will result in shutters. Very annoying. I will be posting a screen shot of my settings but i didnt feel like waiting until i'm off work to post this. I believe my map cut rate is somewhere in the 100 region and my scaler is above 9.

For ease of operation it owns. I like having the fast and furious(j/k) laptop in my passenger seat and being able to add and subtract fuel at my will. Pretty cool. I notice in pulls in 4th and 5th that when i get on it the egts will drop to about 1400(previously 1450-1500 crusing) due to the extra fuel then slowly climb back up. Are any of you messing w/ the matrix at all for more fine tuning of the unit? What i've seen is that if the scaler is lower my egts go nuts top end. W/it at its current setting the top end seems ok for 18psi but pig ass rich mid level. I have fms #30's as secondaries w/ the stockers primary. Idleing my fp is at 45psi.(this is on a walbro 255 w/o any kind of rewiring mind you)

Now with this fuel setup when are you guys having the eic kick in fuel, as soon as boost kicks in or at 2-3 psi? 100kpa is 0 boost according to his website but i'd think sea level would effect this. What is your kpa set at for the cut fuel below setting? With that fuel pump and fpr i'd think we can run up to 3-4 psi on stock injectors w/ that kind of fuel pressure but I don't know how far those things have been pushed before. Most people ditch them in turbo app.

Last but not least will switching to 4g63 450 stockers pose me any risk w/ the eic. I have access to a very inexpensive set from a buddy and i figure running bigger injectors lower duty cycle would be more ideal. I don't think i'll run out of fuel w/ 550 cc's worth but if i decide to turn up the boost and run some 116 octane then i want to be sure i have enough emoji I'll try to get a screen shot on here by tomorrow at the latest so maybe we can figure out what i may have dialed incorrectly. Gracias for the assistance and sorry for the lengthly post, but i rarely ask for help.

You will find your answers in the matrix. I've recently done some playing with the low boost/low RPM boxes to improve transition. The boxes below 3,000 RPM and right at zero boost are in the 0.80-0.85 range. The boxes at higher boost levels are 1.0-1.05. The transition is nearly seamless...even if I lug the engine to turn on the secondary injectors at 1,500 RPM. It may never be perfect, but its pretty good now.

Yeah, Corbin is right on..Others who run the same injector setup, have their scaler in the 7's i believe. If yours is at 9, then it may be to rich, esp if you have your matrix at all 1's. The EIC interpolates the injector pulse width in terms of the scaler number, down to pressure/rpm. Now we know that at 18 or 19 psi, you will need to run a much richer A/F ratio, than at lower boost. As far as I know, the EIC tries to keep a consistant A/F ratio over all its pressure range settings. So basically, you are dumping in too much fuel in very low boost, which means you need to cut back fuel in the matrix, just like Corbin has mentioned. This should help out greatly. The best way to tune the 034 is to run your max boost, and set the scaler to your proper A/F ratio, with the scaler # alone, and leave the matrix at 1. THEN, you need to go back and re-tune lower boost, using the matrix to cut back fuel...Also, some have had good success by lowing the point in which the 034 starts to add fuel..like at 2 or 1 HG's of vac, instead of 0psi...like around 94-96 kpa..

If you power up the 034 with the engine off you can view the atmospheric pressure. You can use that to set your "fuel cut below" value. I believe you will want this value set to be atmospheric pressure.

Related question for you guys what are you using for secondary injectors? what is your scaler number and what is your max boost?

I am just trying to get some reference numbers for me to begin tuning from (if i can get my 034efi problems sorted out) i figure to run around 12-14 psi and am using 30# secondaries and stock primaries

I really messed with where the onset of the fuel kicked in to get that seamless transition. I went as high as I could with still having the good transtion. How low did I go though?

I'm at about 92-93 IIRC. I tried going higher than boost and right at my atmospheic pressure(about 101 here) and nothing gave me as nice a transition than did having the fuel kick on under low vacuum.

Give it a shot. I couldn't be more pleased with my results. BTW, with my 440's, I'm in the low 6's IIRC (for the scaler) and am tuned for the low to mid 1500's.

Any reason you have the range set to 3 bar, instead of 2 bar?? Unless you got the 3 bar map inside the 034(not standard), then the 034 only gives fuel up to around 24 psi. When set to 2 bar, each horizontal grid on the pressure axis, equals around 5 psi..But on the first 0-5 psi horizontal grid, you need to start out at .90's, instead of 1's..see what that does..may need to go even lower, like midd 80's..

I can't believe your atmosperic is at 130 kPa's. And Matt's right, do you have a custom EFi or do you have it set wrong. Msot people I speak to with this EIC, have their atmosperic pressure around 101 or so.

Perhaps the setting of your Map sensor's bar threshold is effecting this?

Again, try setting your Map Rate cut below even lower.

the bottom of the two screen shots was taken after i turned my car off. basically i started the car, ran to the gas station around 1am(don't think it matters but it was probably only 30 degrees outside) and came back to my place, turned off the car which accidently turned off my laptop, rebooted, turned on the acc part of igntion and took the screen shot. i am ignorant as to how temperature would affect the kpa, if it even would at all

I honestly was not aware that the map was only 2 bar, i just assumed(i know, i know) it was 3. shoulda researched it i guess. looks like the answer is in the matrix. anyone care to share screen shots on this thread. would be interesting to see what people are using for whatever boost your running.

I just noticed this: you map cut rate sensitivity is 100??? That is WAY to high..it should be between 20 and 30..try 25. YOu have basically made it way too sensitve to map fluctuations. It may or may not help, but most guys run a # around there. Also, change your fuel cut time to .498 When you have it set for 3 bar map, it just gives you less adjustment fine tuning. It just broadens the horizontal axis tuning field. If you set it to 2 bar, then each horizontal grid equals around 5 psi. So the first grid is 0-5 psi, second is 5-10 psi, ect..The 2 bar grid stops around 24-25 psi.

EDIT!!!- I just rememberd something! When we(matt_95tgs) and I were tuning his EIC, he had set it to 3 bar map also, and when he did this, IT CHANGED the atomospheric kpa value for some reason. I bet you money if you change that to 2 bar map grid, that you will get around 98-102 kpa with the car off. This means now, the way you have it, is that you are not addinng enough fuel at the onset of boost. I'm not sure if that makes a whole lot of sense, but its just what i have seen/remembered from a ways back..Try it! Since the 034 only has a 2 bar map in it, the software is not reading the internal map values correctly..so basically, you are not injecting enough fuel in low boost?? Just a thought really..

EDit one more time!- I just got my 034 in, and hooked it up. At 2 bar range, it reads around 98-99 kpa. When i click to 3 bar map, CLICK THE "CHECKMARK" button, it goes to 128.8 kpa. I don't know if this will fix your issue, and i'm not positive on how the software reads the internal map, but its worth a try, and you need to set it right, and lower the matrix at the onset of boost..once you get it all set right

The EIC only reads voltage from the map sensor. 100kpa on a 2 bar sensor must have equal voltage to 130kpa or so on a 3 bar sensor. You don't want to use the 034 in 3 bar mode if you only have a 2 bar sensor. What happens is you'll get much more fuel per actual kpa then you would expect to get. Think of it this way - if 3bar130kpaVoltage=2bar100kpaVoltage then every actual kpa measured on the 2bar sensor will result in a 1.3bar measurement in 3bar mode. Not that you couldn't adjust for the difference by adjusting the matrix, but it just doesn't make any sense. Basically - you'll still max out the 3bar mode when in all actuallity you're just maxing out the 2bar sensor. If you need a 3 bar sensor then you really should just get one.

As far as the 450s are concerned - you don't want to use low impedance injectors(out of the box) with the 034. We asked Javad about that, and it turns out that the driver works alot like our ECUs with low impedence injectors - you'll fry the ECU unless you use resistor packs.

I'll try and get mine posted some time, but don't forget, that after you change your setting back down to 2 bar, try and lower your onset of boost to 93 or 94 and see how you like that.

In addition, I have my sensitivity WAY up there, and I think it was Matt who suggested it. IIRC, it's at like 250 or something.

Yeah same here, mine is at 265.

Fuel cut below on mine is 98 Kpa, and atmospheric here is 105 Kpa.

I still get the hesitation on the transistion from vacume to boost. At first I thought is was too much fuel, but now it looks like fuel cut from the ecu. I built a map sensor voltage clamp to see if that fixes the problem. I am going to pull some fuel using it to get some extra timing and then pull some timing out with the MSD after 16 psi. I think the fuel cut is not as bad because the eic is still fueling the motor a little.

I would bet that it is too little fuel. I go on about this to everyone, but I'm almost sure that if anyone who was experience weirdness from their boost transition would merely play with their fuel onset query (by lowering it in most cases), their problems would probably disappear. Keep lowering it until the transition issues go away. But keep it as high as possible so it doesnt detrimentally effect your gas mileage.

Well I have been doing some preliminary tuning on my setup, and I did too get that funky hesitation from vac too boost. I have my map cut rate at around 92 kpa, and my map sensitvity is 25. I tried to put it at 200 or higher, but that made things much worse for some reason. I tried it both ways too with both of those settings, and 92/25 is where i get the best results. Almost perfect, seamless boost transition. On the boxes right below 105 kpa(low vac-0 psi), I have them set at .80 and it goes up .1 every box through upper rpm. I have a decent tune now at 8-9 psi, but on a long 4th gear pull, its still a bit lean. I'll work that out soon enough, along with more boost. I'll try and post a screen shot too when i figure it out haha. But datalogging low boost, closed loop, my fuel trims get pegged to -20+ % too, but it seems ok for now..
