#68106, "What rev limit?"

So today before the whole boiling fuel incident I decided to confirm that the factory rev limit was indeed only on thefuel side... and because I'm running the MS I now have no rev limit... Hello 8000 RPM!!!

Sure was cool to upshift from 2nd to 3rd and still be at like 4500 rpm when I hit 3rd... haha.

Sounds fun lol. I would like to hear what it sounds like up there. Just don't take it past 7k too often unless your head is built.(is it?) I think it would be cool to safely be able to use the whole 8200rpm or so on the AFX ecu but i have a 96 and not enough $$ emoji

But it wouldn't be very cool to use the AFX with a turbo now would it... emoji

I'll see if I can get a screencapture from the datalog of the run...lol

Haha, thats very true, i knew you had turbo because of the megasquirt but forgot about the whole timing etc. changes with the ECU. 8,000 is still cool though emoji

not quite sure if it would be cool to run an AF/X ECU with a boosted application, from what i understand the AF/X has a slightly more aggressive fuel and ignition curve, which would require slightly higher fuel pressure and a MSD box to compensate.

what i'm interested in is sending my ECU to Howell and have them flash the rev limiter, and change nothing else.

I thought the AFX/ECU advanced timing...isn't that what you don't want on a boosted application?

From what I understand Howell themselves don't do the reflash of the ECU... they have someone that used to work for Chrysler do it for them... but I'm sure there should be no problem in changing the rev limit without touching the ignition tables...

Man I need to get an wGNT ECU and make a dump of the code.... anyone got a spare ECU??? 99 would be best... emoji

I've asked, it's been discussed and they won't do it.
However they have run north of 20lbs on a Neon with their race version, all you need is octane and you can do anything

Well I sure didn't meet any ignition cut... although I was expecting it...
I'll check the actual RPM that was recorded by Megatune tonight...

Ah well, I'll be using an EDIS for the ignition next anyhow! So I wouldn't have to worry about ignition cut either...

I'll post a screen shot from Megatune...

Hmmm, seems my datalogs are a little screwed up... doh!
At the time when I was up near 8k the rpm shows as 25.5k.... doh! Me thinks I need to fix a noise problem on the RPM line...

The highest point at another time when I know I shifted at 7500 shows the RPM as being 7500...

Here's a screenshot of my one run to 7500 RPM. Note the MAP, O2, and more importantly the injector Pulsewidth! Not bad!

Here's another screenshot showing the Megasquirt in closed loop during cruise... showing the O2 acting just like stock:

That's a pretty clean log. I have a Megasquirt unit being delivered next week so I'm glad to see you've beat me to the install. I'd like to see screenshots of your parameters and settings. If you could send me some info about the sensors you used and quirks you had to work through, it would probably help me out a lot. Hell, if you have part number and shit like that, you'll almost eliminate most of my research. Are you using the TargetAFR function in closed loop? I'm anxious to see how it works with wideband o2 input. Great job on the install!

EDIS=Electronic Direct(or Distrubutorless - like us) Ignition System?

Is that the correct acronym?

Yeah, but that is what Ford calls theirs. The Ford unit is great because it uses a common timing wheel, and can be operated without an ECU. The Ford ECU is only responisble for modifying the signal to advance or retard timing. The ECU doesn't set base timing. Neat setup.
