I don't want to fork out the cash for an HRC or Star kit, seeing as how building a custom turbo kit will let you get Stage 2 performance for even less money then a Stage 1 kit. I have lined up a mani and Super 16G as starters and plan to use an intercooler from a diesel truck (Dodge seems to make a good one). Since I've getting the HRC mani and turbo anyways, should I just use their exact setup (there's a complete Stage II parts list at dsmtuners) and buy all the same lines, fittings, hoses, etc? What about the electronic side of things. How am I supposed to control the fuel and everything? AFC, Super AFC, Missing Link, 034EIC, Megasquirt...?

well let me get in here before anyone else. Welcome to the site and I'll say what everyone else is going to say, try and use the search button to answer as many questions as possible on your own. Having said that it looks as if you have a good foothold on a custom setup. The best fuel management product that everyone else uses is probably the vortech sfmu. The safc is better than the afc because it has more rpm points for adjustments(plus it looks a hell of a lot cooler). missing link if you are 97-99. thats what is off the top of my head.

Im going the custom route also, so far I have the HRC manifold and their s16g and a few other parts including that SFMU, a front mount intercooler, and 550cc injectors. All in all I will be spending about $2000, if this helps you picture where you might be. I was wondering about that list you said you saw on DSMtuners, could you show me a link. Im about to go look for it so maybe I will find it, but just incase. 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 10th Anniversary OZ Edition

I did use a search function it answered a lot of my questions but I still had a couple left. The article is on dsmtuners... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84537 and it has a very conclusive list... absolutely everything. As far as my understanding goes, once I have gotten all the major parts of the turbo system, the rest is all downhill. My shopping list for the big parts: Manifold Turbo Intercooler Blow-off Valve Fuel Pump Injectors SAFC and the rest looks like lines, fittings, and smaller things to connect everything together, and since I am using basically a Hahn kit that list on the article will help me put the rest of my turbo together. I believe by going this way I am avoiding a lot of the headaches of a full custom kit but getting a lot more performance per dollar then a HRC or Star kit.
I'm liking the Dodge intercooler... 34" x 16" x 1.85" and the piping is the perfect size. Only cost me $100 cdn.

Ive been to the custom route and now came back. Sold it cuz i need money. A couple things you might consider for your list, Vortech FMU, a couple of mandrel bent piping, and some gauges, dont forget the gauges. I dont think you'll need bigger injectors or the safc. My reasoning is that you dont need more fuel unless you go for more boost, and you cant do more boost unless you do a rebuild. Stock injectors is enough for stage 2 and minusing those parts will save you a few hundred until your rebuild.

down pipe
· What gauges should I get with my kit?
Most kits come with a boost gauge. An air/fuel gauge will help out with tuning your fuel system. An EGT gauge is spendy but a very nice gauge to have if you don't want to be frying your internals. If you will be messing around with your fuel system a fuel pressure gauge is a plus.
